It was becoming a problem. Repeatedly people were being hunted, attacked, cornered and killed. A death tole that rose steadily without restraint, calls of attacks and people being murdered were becoming very common.. but when the police came to investigate, or find any clues they’d find that no one had been killed. The supposed victims all were confused and very few would even speak with the police. Most returned to their homes saying the officers must have been mistaken.
Not only was there a phantom killer that was running rampant, a case for too confusing for the police to get a grasp on... but it was also Rubi’s latest assignment. Perhaps it was odd that a stray case of the police would be of such urgency but everything else Rubi was doing at the time was moot. This was his prime objective. To let this continue any further would warrant a threat to mankind. As this wasn’t simply a case of a murderer.. but a hive mind taking over peoples minds and body.
It was a threat that demanded it be taken seriously.. but where to begin? Like a hydra, attacking any of the ‘infected’ wouldn’t help. He’d just be alerting the beast to his presence, hell at this point it was almost impossible to tell who was infected and who wasn’t. Those that had been ‘attacked’ were all unwilling to discuss the events, and so it left with very little clues.
All except for a Mr. John Doe.. that is to say no one knew who he was. He’d turned up in the hospital prior to all the attacks, having suffered exactly as all the accounts had described. Jaw dislocated and bleeding profusely from a wound that pierced through the top of his mouth up to the brain. It was a miracle he was alive-- same as all the others.
Only difference was he had been declared insane and taken away to a mental hospital to attempt to treat his state. Which meant Rubi was venturing into the psych ward to meet with the strange man who held the only answers as to what was really happening.
