The sound of his car door shutting was the only interruption on the otherwise silent street, and Damon noted as the Forbes residence came into view that there was a pointedly missing Sheriff's car. Well, that would make things easier. The last time he'd seen Caroline, it hadn't been the most polite encounter -- he had said a slew of harsh things that for some reason, he'd been too annoyed to compel her to forget, and she hadn't made any of her usual attempts to contact him over the past few days. But tonight, he'd had a nagging feeling that he wanted to see her. Yes, he was pent up and hungry, and had been shut down on every other front today, so maybe he just wanted to be around her. It was easy to assume it was for the obvious reasons, so that was exactly what he did.
He still had an open invitation to her house, and by the time he made it to the top of the stairs facing her cracked bedroom door, all he had to do was push it to swing open, leaning arms-crossed against the doorframe. "Look, I know you're mad," He offered, lips pulling up in a slight, winning smirk, the kind that had worked well enough on her in the past. For what it was worth, it was less false this time. "--But I'm here to make it up to you. Cross my heart, hope to die." He knew he could handle this the way he'd handled everything else with her so far -- completely falsely, by telling her to feel a certain way, to remember certain things. And he knew he still could. But part of him wanted to try first, to experience something halfway real before he had to skip to plan B.
