Another season wrapped and, as per usual, the ballet dancers elected to go barhopping downtown to celebrate. With all the training and being the principal, it felt deserved, but logically Alina knew she should have kept herself to just a couple of low-proof cocktails and definitely no shots until she’d had a weeks worth of getting back into the normal less-rigorous routine. She knew it, but when you were at the third bar of the night and trying to turn down shots from friends and strangers it was easier said than done.
Her head was a little dizzy, but she wasn’t drunk, no slurred speech or twisted ankles to be had. What was down was her guard. Alina turned to head back to her friends after ordering a Sprite and declining a stranger’s offer to buy her a drink when the man grabbed her wrist. When she tried to pull her arm away, the man didn’t let go until he knew the force would make her fall. Stumbling backward the brunette knocked over two dancers, spilling drinks and glasses en route. Her bronze skin was warm with embarrassment and the adrenaline pumping in her veins was a distraction to the little bits of glass in her arm and the small cuts that were red with warm blood. A thank you past her painted lips as she looked back at the strong arms helping her up, expecting it to be one of the dancers, the unfamiliar bright blue eyes were a surprising comfort, “Careful... there’s some glass on the floor, I think?” As her gaze fell to the floor she saw the blood on her arm and the tiny bits of glass, a mildly panicked whimper passing her lips as she asked, “That’s not serious, right?”
