Soothe || Xera & Quinn
“Shhh.” He shushes the black steed as it whinnies. Large amounts of people often frightened animals. The steed of a Dullahan was no different. There had been a pop-up stable made for the horses kept on the grounds but Quinn had chosen not to use it. The Dullahan had an air about him that made animals uneasy. He would avoid it all together. Finding a small area still within the confines of the event, away from the stalls and the bustle of tourists. Unmounting, Quinn circles around the horse, lifting hands to run them along either side of the horse’s face, running them down its neck. He assumed the steed would like taking a shape that was not a motorcycle, but the number of tourists wanting to invade the beast’s personal space was overwhelming. Especially as it was ridden by someone who didn’t get the memo that live weapons were not allowed save in specified areas. “You’ll live.” He gruffly says to the horse, it retorts with a snort and a hoof stomp into the soft ground below. “I don’t like it either. But an attempt must be made.” Being out here, around people. But he had to make an appearance, to keep the charade up. The horse whinnies again, causing a rare smile to form on Quinn’s face.“I will get you half a bushel of apples.”
She’d seen the stables earlier in the day and made it a point to stop and look in on the horses that were being housed there. She had hoped to find Alexie in the stables. She hadn’t had a chance to get up to the ranch and so hadn’t seen him since he’d dropped her off from the weekend away. She had had a wonderful time. It had been peaceful and soothing and Alexie had been the perfect company. She had been meaning to check on him and the other Horses, but he had said that Percy and Margo were expecting in the spring so perhaps Alexie was helping tend to that.
She spotted the black steed and a smile slid across her lips. He was a beautiful animal but it was very clear that he was spooked. The fayre could be hard on some animals. “I’m sorry,” she said softly when she heard someone speak. “I didn’t realize anyone was here.” She should have figured there were. Other horses were housed there, but it hadn’t occurred to her. “That’s a beautiful creature you have there,” she said softly. “Would he like some oats?” There was a small barrel next to her and some hay in the corner, but no apples from what she could see. She had heard the caretaker of the animal offer apples.
