The job had been easy enough. A few bandits harassing caravans, take them out to make some loaded merchants happy, blah blah. He’d been offered far fewer coins than it’d been worth, considering how happy the overly dressed merchant had assured he’d be, but he’d taken it anyways. Work was work, and Saber needed work.
He wiped the blood off his blade, looking over the bodies he’d just taken care of. Only a few men. Far too few to be the full group of bandits. He grumbled to himself as he sheathed the sword. Great, now he had to go about finding the rest of them. Though he supposed he could just leave the bodies here and wait for their buddies to come looking.
Before he could decide one way or another, a sound caught his attention. He paused to listen for it, only to curse under his breath. Horse. One, at least, but who knew how many could really turn up. Nothing the other was doing was either of their businesses, but a lone man and a bunch of bodies was never easy to explain. Saber didn’t really look the hero type himself either. A quick prayer that the stranger pressed on without concern for him, and Saber began searching the other men for a map, or some kind of guide.
