sutton was admittedly pretty nervous to come over the next day. she was expecting the worst because she knew she wouldn’t be all that happy if she were in gretchen’s shoes. her hand held onto ellie’s and she walked inside slowly, taking in a deep breath and peering around the house. she spotted the couple in the backyard and joined them on the patio, “hey guys,” she started, her eyes darting between the two in attempt to see if there were any sort of tension. “there you are and there’s my favorite niece!” gretchen exclaimed and took the girl in her lap. she slowly sat down and glanced over at mateo, trying to figure out what happened or if anything happened at all. “how was last night after i left? you guys miss me?” she attempted to joke.

WHO: sutton heady. 31. script writer. PLOT: sutton had a relationship with your muse and caught your muse in bed with someone else, and then wrote a movie about it. think the movie something’s gotta give. OPEN: f/m/nb 30+

“-you know what they say, don’t you? if the shoe fits.” the shoes definitely fit because the movie was absolutely based off of their failed relationship but it was how sutton coped with their infidelity and she didn’t find that it was fair that the other was coming at her the way that they were. “anyways, do you not remember the last thing that i said to you? if not, i don’t mind repeating myself. i said i never wanted to see you again so in that case, you should go.”

sutton wouldn’t miss her sister’s wedding for the world. despite the two of them living so far away from each other, she knew that she had to make this trip and with her daughter by her side. she still had yet to meet her sister’s mystery man and she was ultimately pretty curious to meet the man who had convinced her sister to settle down, especially when gretchen had never been the type of girl to want to do that. she’d always been career motivated and sutton had too. she supposed they both got that from their parents. 

the blonde woman climbed out of her car with her daughter’s hand in her own, leading her toward her parents house where the small wedding party was being thrown. the moment she walked through the door, her sister spotted her and engulfed her in a hug. “you’re here! and my favorite niece too!” she exclaimed and immediately turned her attention to the small girl, who very obviously favored the father - a man who wasn’t involved in ellie’s life. she wasn’t the kind of girl to force a man to be around, especially not a one night stand. “come on! it’s time to meet my fiance. i’ve told him so much about you,” she started and pulled both sutton and ellie along to the man whose back was turned until she approached him. the moment their eyes met, her stomach dropped. this couldn’t be happening.

she and mateo definitely weren’t in an ideal situation but had she or mateo known the entire truth then she assumed maybe the two of them wouldn’t be in this situation. each of them played a part in this. more her than the other two but they weren’t innocent by any means. still, she wished there was something more she could have done to avoid hurting her sister and if not her, then mateo. he hadn’t known about their daughter and sure, gretchen didn’t either but had she been more open about her relationship with sutton’s ex hook up then...they wouldn’t be stressing about the supposed consequences of their actions. 

the vague text she’d received from the father of her daughter spiked her anxiety. more than that, she very much expected a text or call from her sister. one that was sure not to be very nice. though, she didn’t really think she deserved it. sutton hadn’t technically done anything to gretchen. hearing her doorbell finally sound, she moved toward her door a nervous feeling settling in her stomach. she took in a deep breath and swung it open, immediately inviting the other inside. “come in,” she muttered and closed the door behind him. “how did, uh, she take it?”

sutton never thought she’d be in a fake relationship, let alone one for PR. she never thought she’d be in a situation where that was something she needed but they wanted to further put her into the spotlight, help promote the script she’d just written for the movie that was coming out and no, caleb wasn’t an actor in the movie but he was still someone that was in the lime light way more than she was and he was going to help push her out there. 

she stood in front of the man, preparing to further face the paps that were more than likely outside waiting for them since they spotted them entering the hotel together, “do you think that you can act like you really like me?” sutton teased softly. she was only messing with him and attempting to keep the mood light. she was still getting to know him and was trying to have a good relationship with the soccer player since she was going to be spending a lot of time with him. she was close with everyone she worked with and she didn’t want the media to see through their relationship, so she knew it was best to befriend him as much as she could. “it can’t be that hard, hm?”

sutton knew the two of them couldn’t keep doing this and at first, it was fun. it was exciting. it kept them on their toes but now, it was something way more than that. her arms came around his neck as the two of them made their way into a room alone and her lips found his for a kiss. everytime she kissed her boyfriend, she thought of him and that wasn’t how things were supposed to me. she slowly pulled away, a sigh escaping her lips and her eyes meeting his. “we can’t keep doing this,” she started, her hands sliding forward and playing with the collar of his shirt, “we have to tell him. it’s not fair to him...”

losing her brother wasn’t something sutton expected she’d ever had to go through. at least, not now at such a young age and god, she missed him. every day he seemed to be the first thing she thought of, especially since she knew he was gone. her heart ached and she was spiraling out of control. she regularly landed herself in situations where her brother’s best friend would pop up and ‘look out’ for her. she was admittedly pretty horrible to him, “you’re not my brother!” she shouted every time and still, that didn’t seem to stop him from being there for her and later, she knew she’d appreciate it but for now, she was hurting.

tonight was no different, the woman had landed herself at a party and she had way too much to drink. eventually, she landed herself upstairs with a stranger and she wanted to feel something, anything other than the ache in her chest. everything seemed to be a blur up until he found her and she sighed, her body laying against the mattress. “i think i’m gonna be sick.”
