“It’s not enough,” she stated matter of factly. “You’ll learn that the hard way here real soon.” Not that Shay wanted to see Kieran find trouble, if anything it was something she was trying to avoid now that she was aware of him, but his flare of stubbornness needed. lesson. The owner would be more her friend than they ever would be of Kieran’s, no matter how much bonding they had between them. They were tied in a way that went above anything else.
Unable to peel her eyes away from him now, the undercover agent was openly turned toward him. Every torturous memory that filtered through her head fueled the seething hate the sight of him burdened her with.
Only, Shay didn’t hate him. Far from it, actually.
What had been left in his wake was hurt that morphed and manifested as silence drug on, then only amplified when she’d begun seeing him around the city. And it’s a decent sized city with lots going on which left her to feel a bit tortured by his so close yet so far presence.
What made it worse what that Shay had known better. Had been well into the mindset that she shouldn’t truly get close to anyone, let them in. Somehow he’d weaseled his way through her walls and had brought out feelings in her.
“This is my place, Kieran.” Maybe that would give him the message. This place belonged to her gang, the people that filled the space had her back not his. “Stop being a fucking child. I can make you go somewhere if you’d prefer that.” There was only a slight inflection change in her tone but a few members were now a little more alert and keeping an eye on the pair.
Part of her hoped that he’d listen and give up a little bit of pride, while the other wanted him tossed out on his ass. How dare he come up next to her and act so bold and so cocky. Especially after what he’d done.
The next words that came out of his mouth put Shay on her feet. Her hand pushed into his arm and forced him to give his full attention. “I’ve got it figured out, buddy. This is not where you need to be and you need to get the fuck away from me now.”
It was ok for her to act unaffected, something she had now lost face, but for him? Fuck no. To push back on top of it? Shay was ready to hit him.
Big, burly men were slowly making their way in their direction.
You used me. Shay wanted to shout that at him.
Hurt filled her chest and made her skin feel hot. Why was she the one losing it? This never happened.
Again, the man right here was to blame for it.
“It’s time for you to leave, Kieran.” A quick flick of her hand send his glass flying. “Your charm isn’t going to work here anymore.”
