Threaded steel bar refers to a group of corrosion-resistant steel alloys containing about 10.5% chromium. This chromium in the stainless steel reacts with the oxygen in the atmosphere and produces a thin and inert layer of chromium-rich oxide on its surface. Due to this layer, stainless steel is corrosion resistant. Unlike other protective coatings such as paint or galvanising, this protective film of chromium-rich oxide continues to protect the steel even if abrasion damages it. This film tends to re-form even after being damaged.
