#brynn.text#brynn.ask#pov youve spent all day fighting and you sit down beside a campfire your friend spent an hour trying to make because the logs were damp#because you live in a marsh#so finally you make your home by the fire - it’s so warm - especial’y whe.n youre pressed up against two of your fellow soldiers#you were already sweaty in the first place#three layers#working all day in the hot summer sun#but you sit by the fire#and your brother starts to pluch at a guitar#he’s smelled like lemon oil since you met him#from taking care of his guitar#from the way its embedded in his calluses#when he started smelling cigarettes you cant quite place#but it hasnt been long#he starts to sing but is voice is hushed and hoarse#whether from screaming or trying to stay quiet you arent sure#but the sound is small enough you can hear your best friend’s breathing - the way the soon to be traitor taps his foot - the way the#crickets chirp#when you look down from the stars#a son is curled against his father#and you feel your best friend’s head hit your shoulder#his breath still smells like homemade apple cider
