The Cro-Husband Reception at the Three Patch Suite! It was so exquisitely created and set up by @crochetjohnandsherlock‘s handler. Commence the ooohs and ahhs!
Three Patch Podcast hosted and MC’d the event and provided room decorations, prizes for wedding toasts, bee-themed wedding favors, a wedding guest book, and a beautiful *and* delicious chocolate raspberry mousse cake (More on that later!). The speeches made by reception guests were funny, poignant, and empowering. When it came time for their first dance, we played All of Me by John Legend. There was nary a dry eye in the room.

Behind the scenes of the Cro-husband Reception! The Three Patch Podcast Suite was decorated with romantic ribbons and balloons for @crochetjohnandsherlock newly weds. The reception decor itself was simple yet elegant, a testament to their handler’s considerable skillz. Tiny and delicate blue and white roses and fairy lights make up their romantic wedding arch, and beautiful blooms flank their reception table. Their 3-tier cake is towering, and decorated with bumblebees, pink ribbon, and blue and white roses. Three Patch Podcast put together a whole table full of bee-themed wedding favors for the guests!

Last weekend, Three Patch Podcast hosted the Three Patch Podcast Suite at 221b Con for the 4th time, and, as always, there were shenanigans.
This year we hosted porny flashfic, Fanfic After Dark with @carnationbooks, podcast recordings, a Carnation Books mixer, fanfic discussions with @reading221b, @drinkingcocoa-tpp‘s Casseroles for Mycroft in the @homelessnetwork-221bcon Suite, the Cro-husbands Reception Party for @crochetjohnandsherlock followed by the bashing of a Thatcher bust/pinata, meetups for fans of Check Please, MBMBaM, and ice skating, movie screenings, and more!
Stay tuned for our series of roundup posts!

The Cro-Husband Reception at the TPP Suite was a magical experience. The guests came in their wedding finery and the toasts were funny, poignant, and deeply felt by many in the room, as evidenced by the number of tissues that came out.
Three Patch Podcast’s own @unknownsister MC’d the event and @headcumbernerd provided the guests with adorable bee-themed wedding favors and a guest book. And @drinkingcocoa-tpp brought out, arguably, the most delicious wedding cake ever created: an exquisite and decadent chocolate raspberry mousse cake from Alon’s Bakery, the TPP Suite’s preferred bakery of the last 4 years.
If you missed this magical event or want to relive the Cro-Husband Reception experience, our recording of the wedding toasts will be featured in the next episode of Three Patch Podcast. Thank you to Michelle, the handler of the @crochetjohnandsherlock for creating and sharing their beautiful story with us!

Some of the Three Patch folks are going to the Adventure of the Black Cat burlesque show on Friday, August 7! But some will be hanging out at the hotel. Want to come join us? This will be super informal: no room decor, no programming, BYOB, just a bunch of folks sitting around in a suite talking.
We will have packaged snacks for you to take with you -- the programming rooms allow catered food only, so if you want any Una Bars or The Man with the Key Lime is King bars to tide you over during the con itself, you’ll want to get a couple ahead of time.
Date: Friday, August 7, 2015
Time: 9 PM to midnight
Place: Hyatt Bethesda, hotel room number TBA (check our Twitter)

Dixie got the idea to create this hand-painted replica of the 221B wallpaper when she saw a stencil from the Creative Stencils shop on Etsy.
After the 221B Con in 2014, for which Dixie transformed some foam and fiberboard into an homage to the 221B fireplace, she wanted her next project to be “something portable” that could be mailed to any con, not limited to events within driving distance of Dixie’s home.
Once she bought the stencil, she bought the largest painters’ tarp she could find, 9’ x 12’, and acrylic black paint from a craft store. She secured the stencil to the tarp with blue painters’ tape, applied the paint to the tarp with a foam roller, let the paint dry, then moved the stencil to the next section of tarp. Each 17” x 24” section took 15 minutes to paint and another 15 minutes to dry.
Dixie finished the hem with iron-on fabric tape, which took 30-40 minutes to apply, and punched grommets along the top edge, 10 minutes (but a lot of muscle power through the thickness of the fabric).
The entire process took about two weeks, start to finish. She already had brushes, iron-on fabric tape and a grommet puncher. The rest of her expenses were under $100:
Stencil $37.95
Tarp $20
Paint $20
Nothing but raves for Creative Stencils from Dixie: “They are quick and very very nice.” When she wanted a smaller version of the stencil to create some wallpaper bunting, they were able to resize the design immediately to her exact specifications.
She cut the bunting triangles out of the same painters’ tarp material and finished the edges with seam binding and fabric glue.
Both the wallpaper and the bunting can handle very hot ironing.
For anyone who wants to try this, Dixie says, “The bunting would be the best project to start out. It’s small, but you’re going to have to shrink the pattern. They can adjust anything on there for you. It’s a very forgiving pattern because it’s so busy, you’re not going to notice the errors unless you sit there and look for them. There’s a paw print here or there, the pattern’s not straight here or there. Stenciling is simple. It’s just time-consuming and very tedious. If I can do this for the first thing I’ve stenciled, anybody could.”
