It was pitched black in the base, the only light source was slivers of moonbeams tracing the outlines of the array of furniture scattered around the room and the glowing cyan of GIR's optics as he wildly scanned the room for their Master.
“Nya!” Minimoose floated by and narrowly missed hitting his nubs on the bottom of their coffee table, but as GIR snatched the robotic moose back his antler snagged the molding of the leg and caused the table to crash down against their linoleum flooring.
“Shh!” GIR squeaked frantically as he ducked away from the downed table and searched, breath heaving to see if he could spot Zim anywhere, terrified he heard the disturbance. He flattened himself against the side of the couch and tried to see if he could spot menacing crimson gleaming at him from the dark.
“Tonight's objective: avoid being spotted. See if you two have what it takes to survive an enemy in pursuit...WHILE BEING PLUNGED INTO TOTAL DARKNESS!”
His cackle had been all the two had heard before the upper level of the base had been encased in the blackness of the night and they were given only a minute to flee and hide before Zim started to search.
Now remaining uncharacteristically silent, GIR scanned the room a final time. “....I think it's safe to go,” he told Minimoose and finally sidestepped out into the open.
