            A CAT AND A MOUSE     is  the  prologue  to  their  story ,  one  chasing  and  the  other  one  running away .  a  power  struggle ,  but  poor  kang  daegeun  was  never  advantageous  in  this  game  subin  is  so  keen  on  playing .  “   what ’ s wrong ,  g u e n i e  ?   ”  the  concern  in  his  voice  is  b e t r a y e d  by  the  smile  on  his  face ,  any  attempt  at  s i n c i r i t y  sabotaged  by  his  own  inability  to  keep  amusement  from  slipping  past  his  cracks.

            “   you ’ re  usually more .  .  . f i e s t y .  ”      it  is  a  purr ,  body  sliding  until  he’s  comfortably  seated  on  his  old  friend’s  lap .  m e m o r i e s  should  soften  him ,  but  he’s  the  one  who  r u i n e d  the  foundations  of  their  friendship  in  the  first  place ,  and  he  always  did  find  that  broken  expression  on  daegeun’s  face  alluring .  “   i  like  when  you ’ re  like  this ,  but  i  don ’ t  think  i ’ m  the  cause  of  it  this  time  ——  i ’ m  so  c o n f l i c t e d .  ”

2 a.m calls to him like hunger to a starved man and he is better under artificial lights lighting up his path, neon signs over doors (of overcrowded spaces). he lives his life when normal people and do, but also when they don’t and if anyone asks, he prefers the night crowd; the nocturnal beings that seem to have way less to lose or that simply have stopped caring. 

it’s early (to his standards), but he is trying to break a pattern and the two hours he’s slept in the last twenty-four should be showing on his face, but they don’t.  he raises the warm cup he’s holding, hand lazily covering the expensive brand printed on it -- because coffee is just what someone who hasn’t slept yet should do. it’s logical in an illogical way -- Sungjae’s best course of action -- and if it doesn’t make sense, it must be right. no one dares to tell him he’s completely bonkers, but he knows.it’s part of the charm.

" i got myself a cup of coffee. you should have been here to prevent this mistake” he utters, but he could have simply gone with the typical you're late’
