Cranky Bitch called me up early morning to be in office.
‘Hello, Bitch! It’s Saturday. I don’t do office on Weekends.’ I thought to myself while dragging off the bed and making my way to the washroom to get ready for the terrible weekend I was about to have.
Half way through the day, doing menial tasks for her, I get a call from a friend.
He asks me to go to this Poetry thing somewhere in South Delhi. Good lord. Like my day wasn’t bad enough. Poetry! Seriously!
The dragging continues and I reach to this place called THE PINT ROOM. I take in the Ambience and my mood lifts up a little. A little as somewhere in the back of my mind I know poetry is going to be a sad dramatic affair.
Few minutes in there and the Emcee starts up the SLAM JAM Event. Our first Poet talked about Technology. But it was really about a relationship. Wait. What’s happening? This was supposed to be something on the vast ocean and how the tides reflected the tribulations of their lives. Why was this so hip and happening? Maybe an exception.
Then we had another guy whose poem was something like
‘Mumbai - Where religion is easier to find than an apartment’.
If you ask me, this was something good, honestly. Trendy, Funny and Classy. Never thought a poem could be all of these three. The show had begun guys. It was hilarious, dramatic, social, relatable but not a single low point anywhere.
While some had bang-on endings(I definitely mean Aditi in particular), some had poems about their beloved Mothers in the most unlikely manner I have ever heard. I even learned about perfect cup of Tea(PS – She hates Coffee lovers). Though it was more than just Tea. The underlying issue that came up, I didn’t expect to at the event. I could see certain attendees relate to them.
And how could I not mention my personal favorite of the evening?
‘You gave me a Book and I fell in love with you’.
An unusual heart touching love story of its own.
This gang had it all. Even poems in Hindi by ‘Mr. Sexy’ Tee bearing guy which as my friend said was a perfect end of the show. This was far from the sad dramatic affair but Itty Bitty Very Pretty Poetry(I took permission before quoting the poets, I swear).
All I could say about this poetic gang is, When ‘Bring Back The Poets’ are performing, you better be attending.
Now time to cook up my own personal piece for the Diva in office who dared to call me to the office on a weekend.
“Thou that Bitch,
Shall remain a Bitch.
Bitch Bitch Bitch!”
Somebody stop me before I displace the great poets by my amazing lines.
