When I say I over render, this is what I mean.
HELP
Enjoying this one coming together, and I followed some colour blend and colour palette tutorials on YouTube which really helped build the final palette for this one! Zoom in for messy details (it’s a work in progress)
I’ve been really scattered art-wise for a few weeks, starting and stopping, and picking up old works for an hour and stopping again. This is an old work with an hour’s extra work on it, just playing with some effect ideas for the pose, and also harmonising the colour palette across the clothes and his skin. This style (comic, I guess) is not my usual style at all. I find it difficult to produce nearly and clean line and colour work! I do hope I finish this one, and I think I’m ok if it’s not any time soon. I have about 8 other WIPs right now, ha.

Via @wasteful-sam’s amazing VP, I’ve been painting Rolan in action, with a haircut!
Figuring out composition and final background colour palette. Yes I’m leaving the breast plate until last 🙈🤣
I headcanon that Rolan takes control of Ramazith swiftly - instant authority over its day to day operations, because that’s just how he is. Disciplined, thorough, and extremely intelligent. He opens a wizarding school for orphaned tieflings, providing scholarships, and the teaching expertise is of such high quality (obviously) that noble families from all over Faerun are willing to pay fees for their children to attend.
Every student is assessed equally and fairly, and admission is based on actual skill and merit rather than status and family name. Everything he establishes provides the foundation for an institution that lasts a millennia. His investments improve access to the weave, which leads to a more equitable distribution of magic that compounds over time. It’s no longer reserved for the privileged few. He does all of this whilst also revolutionising the lives of Astarion’s vampire spawn colony, establishing self sufficient bloodbanks with the help of Elle, Astarion, Shadowheart, Minthara, and Halsin.
He eventually finds a cure for the Spawns’ affliction from the sun, and even through turbulent threats from Kanchelsis, the God of Vampirism and his union of eclipses, his discoveries lead to the revolution and emancipation of Spawn across Faerun, changing the lives of a species of enslavement forever. He’s magnificent, and hardly realises the impact he has on everyone he meets, and those he never even gets to. An Archmage for the people, unlike any known before him.
