Misunderstanding
You’d had it. You just had to get away from him, you couldn’t take another minute of Tip and Koziks fighting. Now you could handle the fighting, it was what they were fighting about that was pissing you off. Missy.
You hadn’t believed Chucky when he’d said that there had to be at least one vagina involved, in fact you had laughed. When you overheard a conversation between the two, about how Kozik had “loved her too”, you accepted that it was about some woman, it was in the past, it must have been - Tig was with you now. But the way he had been moping about it since Kozik had appeared, suggested otherwise.
This afternoon when you had come home from work at the preschool to the apartment you shared with Tig, and found him sulking on the couch over a beer, you couldn’t take it. You’d had it.
Now you were sitting in your car on the side of the road about a mile outside of Charming. You looked down at your phone on the passenger side seat, another call from Tig. The sixth in an hour. Apparently, slamming the door as you stalked out of the apartment had gotten the message across that something was wrong.
By the time another hour had passed you had received a text from almost each of the boys trying to track you down, you had decided to go home.
————————
You walked quietly through the front door to see Tig sitting at the kitchen table, his head in his hands, a piece of paper in front of him, by the sound of the gentle snores coming from him, he’d fallen asleep. You cleared you throat, startling him awake.
“Doll, where’ve you been? I’ve been freaking out” He said, getting up from the table walking over, putting his hands on your arms.
“I just needed some time” you mumbled sighing, “I’m sorry”, giving him a small smile.
“You sure?” You nodded and he placed a small kiss on your forehead
“Whatcha looking at?” You asked, nodding your head towards the small piece of paper on the table.
“A photo of Missy” he answered with a sad smile, this was enough for you to pull yourself from his grip, throwing you hands up, scoffing.
“I’m done”, you turned to leave, as you felt him grab your arm as you reached for the door knob.
“Babe, whats wrong?”
“What is it about Missy that you just cant seem to let go of?” You exclaimed
“I’m sorry Doll, I just miss so many things about her. The way her face used to light up in a smile when she’d see me at the end of the day, the way she would lie on my lap at night when we’d watch a movie, the way we’d play around in the park”
He let out a small chuckle “man she could chase that ball for hours”
Your brows furrowed in confusion, “wait. What?” You muttered as you walked over to the table, turning the photo to face you, and you were met face to face with this so called competition.
A dog. Missy was a dog. You had been worrying for weeks about....a dog.
You turned to him with a fierceness in your eyes that made him step back a step. “You have got to be fucking kidding me.”
He looked at you, his startling blue eyes laden with confusion.
“A dog. Missy was a fucking dog. I have been stressing for weeks thinking that you were in love with some other woman for fucking weeks! And she has been a dog this whole time!” You screamed at him
“Babe...” his face sunk, and you could tell that he was hurt. A combination of how much he had made you worry, and what you were saying about Missy.
“No! I am so not okay! This whole time I have been beating myself up thinking I wasn’t good enough for you! That I couldn’t give you what she could give you! That you didn’t actually love me! I mean, how could you if you were still in love with this chick! And this whole time it was a fucking dog!” You slapped him on the chest before grabbing your bag and storming back out.
He didn’t follow you though, he just stayed, stunned in the lounge room. You drove off before pulling back off to that same side of the road, laying your face on the steering wheel. You felt awful. You’d screamed at him and blamed him even though it was your own stupid fault for misunderstanding. This dog had clearly meant a lot to him, and you had just screamed at him about her.
You sat bolt upright, you had to make this up to him.
————————
You opened the front door, juggling your bag and your special, particularly wriggly, present for Tiggy. You snuck in and found him asleep on the couch.
God this man is hopeless at staying awake, you thought with a snicker as you snuck in the lounge room, standing in front of him. You placed the present down on his chest, as his eyes shot open. He looked up at you, and then to the bundle on his chest as it shuffled.
“Hello, where’d you come from?” He smiled at you, as he sat up balling the wriggling gift into his arms.
You sat down next him, scratching the fluffy ball in your husbands arms as he turned to you.
“She looks just like Missy” he chuckled out “why?”
“I felt awful about before. It was my fault for not misunderstanding, I shouldn’t have yelled at you-”
“No babe-”
“Let me finish please. I know Missy meant a lot to you and I shouldn’t have freaked out about it so much. So I wanted to make it up to you, I know she isn’t Missy but this little girl did need a home, so...” you trailed off, not sure how he’d respond.
“She’s beautiful, just like her mum” he said with the most charming smile. You leaned in and kissed him before pulling back.
“So what should we name her?” You asked
“How about Sammy?”
He smiled up at you, before laying back and pulling you into a cuddle.
“Perfect”
He lay there, his eyes close, unable to help but to smile as he thought to himself, my girls.
