Katie Duffy.....and others with cancer

Katie Duffy has cancer.  She’s mid-40′s, married, with children.  I know her from my youth, but haven’t seen her or talked to her in many years.  She probably remembers me, as I remember her.

I remember that she was friendly and popular and smiled and laughed a lot.  And now she has cancer. 

I’ve read about her battle on social media, and it has occurred to me that this happens all the time throughout the country and the world.  My mind starts to wander about others that I know that have cancer right now.  My high school basketball Coach, Dave Sladky.  Kansas City’s Tim Grimes.  Another guy that I knew from high school, Joe Hinkel.  My good friend Scott Miksch’s wife, Jean.  This is just off the top of my head.....

.......and one of my wife’s very best friends just died from throat cancer over the last month. 

I often ask, “Why”?  Why does God let people have cancer?  Why does he allow such suffering?  I don’t have a good answer.....

.........but I do see the good in others, and the importance of good friends.  Someone started a Go Fund Me for Katie Duffy.  Thousands of dollars have been raised within days, to help with medical bills, and to help support her family. 

Pray for Katie, and Joe, and Jean, and Tim and Coach Sladky......and all of those that are battling this horrible disease.....
