The Time Key, Singing... (Drawing)
Created for the Magicians Fanworks Extravaganza @magiciansfanworksextravaganza event Don’t Make Me Sing (Every Single One of Us Has to Sing): Mar. 23-29, 2026.
As the Time Key rises through the sand, it sings...a soft but profoundly magical tone that sounds again, slightly louder, slightly longer, while Quentin touches it and plucks it from the sand, as if it recognizes him--as if his touch has activated or confirmed its purpose--as if it's coming home. The complex tone carries several notes blended together, reminding me a bit of a glass armonica...or a purring cat. This melodic hum, like the key itself, stands as a symbol for the beauty of all life.
This drawing is part of Mosaic Haiku, Chapter 23: Mosaic Music on AO3, where it can be seen with greater resolution/sharpness:
