This Tiny House Community Feels Like Living In A Small Village

Park Delta Bay advertises as “the only legal Tiny House community in Northern California”. There are now 10 tiny homes on wheels parked here - among 65 long-term residents - on this former KOA campground that now offers RV parking and cabin rentals. 

To park your tiny house here, it has to be built according to RV certifications and registered as an RV. We visited four tiny homes. 

Ken & Jessie: After living in containerized housing while enlisted together in the military together, they decided to leave their $2000-per-month home in Suisun City and move into a tiny house (theirs was built by Tiny Mountain Houses).

Sarah & Josh: With the only skoolie on the lot, Sarah and Josh moved from North Carolina, originally looking in the Bay Area, but discouraged by $1400-per-month parking fees they moved in here where things are “slower” and they like that.

Corinne Corley: One of the longest residents here, Corinne moved from Kansas City to be closer to Stanford Hospital where she’s being treated for a rare condition. Her home is “accessible” for her: it has stairs that have a longer rise so she can walk up them.

Melanie: A widow who built her own home - including plumbing, electric and elevator bed - and moved to California to be near her daughters.

Does anyone wanna start a tiny house/ earth home community deep in the woods where we have a communal garden and help each other?

We could keep goats and rabbits and children would be allowed and there'd be like 30 dogs.

The Plan

Beginning plans for my eco village. 

I don’t know if I can ever make an eco village a reality, this is just planning and a bit of dreaming and fantasizing, so no hate please? 

The People

I don’t know how many people would be a good fit yet? I’m in the beginning phases of imagining this place. But there needs to be diversity! People from different backgrounds, with different knowledge and skills. Married couples, dating couples, casual couples, polygamy couples, single people, people with kids, people without kids, people with college degrees, people with high school diplomas, drop outs. I don’t care who you are or where you came from! Just a willingness to work and form a community!!

Certain skills would be nice to have, but with the internet and books there are a lot we’ll be able to learn ourselves and teach each other. I’ll touch on this more later though.

Money

Once the land is purchased, if it's large enough we could have a separate area for vacation tiny homes. These could be rented out for a weekend, or a week. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be included. Renting them out for weekends/vacations would make more than having someone lease it out for a longer stay(months).

Another idea would be making products like soap and other goods. Now the homemade soap business is a little crowded in Kentucky, but I think if we marketed our goods as "made by an eco village", we could get a good step in and maybe be successful.

If we can make enough food for ourselves plus more, we'll be able to sell fruits and vegetables too.

Charging the members:

Charge a member fee, we'll have to make sure we're in an area people can find jobs, work from home like customer service, or like above- selling goods.

Cleaning up the vacation tiny homes would be another job.

Membership fees would go towards taxes, buying supplies for future projects like solar panels, more housing, the vacation homes, teacher/education center if we have a lot of kids, shuttles for those without cars that needs to go to town.
