Yeah it's true, and Reagan-era economic policies/propaganda didn't help neither. There are a lot of really common sense notions that could have definitely been implemented in our country had we not gone all red scare. I mean, people weren't exactly happy with FDR's programs, but I think there was an atmosphere of cooperation as we got out of the GD that could have been a springboard for real socialist changes. 

Except America is a country built on capitalism, we were born of it, and I the "rugged individualism" and american dream bullshit all revolve around it. It's tricky. We're a weird country.
