Y’all already know what time it is - it’s time to look at those pics of Orlando Bloom’s butt and thiccc calves again, j/k, but also, do you. Do. You. In all seriousness, I’m back with my third edish of my series called #BookDump where I share what I’m reading and y’all give me suggestions and also share what books you’ve been devouring. Btdubs, thanks for all your recs so far; I literally ordered so many 📚 that I hope to read in 2021. Anyway! Onto the books: ⠀ •I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE CAKE by #SloaneCrosley. While it was nice to kick it with a humorous essay collection, the book lacks in the vulnerability department. Often felt as tho Crowley was hiding behind jokes. Wish this resonated more, tbh. ⠀ •WHAT MY MOTHER AND I DON’T TALK ABOUT edited by @readandbreathe. Essay collection about various writers and their fascinating relationships with their moms. Honest, heartbreaking, touching. Truly enjoyed this. ⠀ •THE LIKEABILITY TRAP by @aliciamenendezxo. At times, it can be a little academic and relay things to you that you already know, but it is a pleasant read. ⠀ •THE BODY IS NOT AN APOLOGY by @sonyareneetaylor. Must read. Forces you to dig deep and not be afraid to do so. Loving yourself is the 1st step to changing the world! Loved receiving this reminder. ⠀ •HOME BODY by @rupikaur. I absolutely love her poetry. Her way with language and writing about trauma, healing, and feminism is phenomenal. She is such a treasure. ⠀ •OBIT by @fattery12. Inspired by the passing of her mother, each poem is an obituary to something Victoria’s has lost. It’s a heavy read and will making you think about your own parents. Blunt yet lyrical meditation about grief. ✨P H E E B S B O O K D U M P ✨ Posted @withregram • @dopequeenpheebs OCTOBER BOOK DUMP ⠀ Hey boo boos! I’m late as hell with this one because I’ve been working on my book and a script. Apologies! But here it is: the second edition of my series called #BookDump where I share what I’m reading and y’all give me suggestions and also share what books you’ve been devouring. I read less last month because of work, but I still managed to read some goodies. Wig by @sabsthegoodgirl. OK! Onto the books: ⠀ •WHERE TO BEGIN by @cleowade. Much like her first book, this is a collection of mantras, poems, words of wisdom. If your spirit needs a tuneup, this is a great one to read. Bonus: there are places for you to color, which I found to be soothing and took me back to my high school years when I used to draw a lot. ⠀ •DO THE F*CKING WORK by @gooddsgnasvice. Pretty self explanatory, lol, but whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed with work, I like to read books that give me a little kick in the pants. This one has a lot of cursing in it, which is fine because I curse a lot. Also reminded to get out of my own way creatively! ⠀ •THE WORD: BLACK WRITERS TALK ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF READING AND WRITING edited by @maritagolden. I love learning about what other authors enjoy reading, their writing process, etc. But usually, this kind of collection only interviews white writers. So it was nice to hear from black authors about what inspires, pushes, and challenges them. ⠀ •NORMAL PEOPLE by #SallyRooney. Ooooo! I loved this book. Lots of angst, sensual glares, and emotional drama. Strong writing that sticks with you. Would read any and everything else Rooney writes. Highly recommend. ⠀ •THE TRADITION by @jerichobrown1. This Pulitzer Prize winning poetry collection is a gut punch. Haunting. Moving.
