as lord akhirah kaito tarth stepped into the grand feasting hall of riverrun, a wave of nostalgia washed over him. the scents of roasted meats and spiced wine mingled in the air, transporting him back to simpler times - such food was not something he consumed often upon his own isle. mainlander food was always different. his vivid dark eyes scanned the room for a specific individual until they landed on a familiar figure.
lord tirius rowan, his closest friend since boyhood, the pair having awkwardly sat together as the elderly uncles insisted they would be married next - whilst their legs still swung.
with a broad smile, akhirah strode forward, a smile crossing his features by the sight of his old companion. “tirius rowan!” akhirah called out, his voice rich with affection and joy. he approached the man, and the two greeted one another as they always did; they embraced warmly, a testament to their enduring bond. “it's been too long, brother,” akhirah said, his tone light and casual as he smacked tirius on the back, a soft chuckle slipping from his lips.
“we’ve survived many trials, haven't we? to still stand here in riverrun, with our backs nearly in.”
as they found a spot at a long table, akhirah’s thoughts briefly wandered to the recent encounter he had with the daughter of a reknowned landed knight of the stormlands, only days ago within one of the rivermarkets. lady aeliana, her name was. a beautiful young woman with flowing chestnut hair and striking green eyes, known for her great beauty and multiple other things. she had approached akhirah with a plea that weighed heavily on his mind.
as he slipped into the bench opposite the man and reached for the mead, he offered him a look. a knowing look; there was only one thing the lady could have been so distressed about. "the lady aeliana has been seeking your response to her letters. she all implored me to bring this to your attention.” he observed tirius’s reaction closely, noting the flicker of acknowledgement, ire and unease. “she seemed quite distressed for a stranger. is all well?”
akhirah's mind raced as he waited for his friend's response. there was more to this story, he was sure of it. the concern for aeliana's plight weighed heavily on him, and he hoped tirius would take her concerns to heart. time would reveal the truth, and akhirah would stand by his friend, come what may.
