Ah! I’m so glad you’re getting more recognition and love for The Kid Next Door Series! It’s truly an adorable concept<3, unless you have a fic in the making, I was wondering, since reader and Luke have been together for a while before his draft and rise to flame. Is he public with their relationship? Do the fans know about her/does he post her? especially with anniversary post haha! Love the work you do <3

y/n’s pov
It was hours before Luke was supposed to pick you up, and you stood in your room, staring at your dress that hung in your closet.
It was an elegant, deep-blue dress that flowed to the floor in soft ripples. It ribbed beautifully where your hips would fit, and the neckline showed just enough to be hot, but not scandalous.
You reach carefully to pull the dress from the rack, holding it up by the hanger before carefully laying it out on your bed, continuing to stare at it.
In just a few hours, your favorite boy will be seeing you in this dress. You shouldn’t be worried, but you are. You will only get one prom with Luke due to it being his senior year while you are a junior, which, in your mind, meant that it had to be perfect.
You take a deep breath before turning to your vanity, looking at your whole skincare, makeup, and hair routine lined up nicely in preparation for the stress you are about to put yourself through to get ready.
You walk over to the stool with a sigh, unprepared for the hours of preparation you are about to pursue.
“Here we go…” You whisper to yourself.
And just like that, you are lost in a world of skin prep and makeup, making sure your skin is moisturised enough for your makeup to stay on all night.
Then, starting your makeup, getting to contour, hating it, and starting over.
Then, making it to the blush and hating it again.
Your frustration only grows as you keep wiping off your makeup and starting from scratch.
It gets to a point where you feel your eyes burning, ready to cry.
But then…
Knock knock.
You furrow your eyebrows, confused.
“Come in!” You shout.
The door creaks open.
And there stands your brother.
“CAM!” Your face lights up as you stand and run to him.
“Hey, Bug!” He laughs as he hugs you just as tight.
He had moved to Detroit back in August of last year because driving to the arena from home all the time got to be too much, so now you see him once every two weeks at most. To most people, that wouldn’t seem awful.
But for your whole life, he has been your favorite person.
You would go to him every day.
But now, after a long stretch of games, roadies, and not seeing him for pretty much a month, he was here, saving you from your frustration as you are getting ready for prom.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” you say. “I was about to cry.”
He pulls back and looks down at you. “Is everything alright?”
You laugh softly. “Yeah, I was just getting really frustrated with my makeup.” You take a deep breath. “Can you sit and talk to me while I get ready?” You ask hopefully.
He smiles appreciatively. “Of course, Bug.”
You make your way back to sit at your vanity, and he sits on the edge of your bed.
“I haven’t asked in a while,” he starts. “How are you and Luke?”
A wide grin spreads across your face as you apply your makeup. “We’re doing great. Amazing, actually,” you start.
Cameron chuckles softly, knowing you’re about to begin a ‘yapathon.’
“He gets me flowers every week!” You speak excitedly. “Oh, and you know how indecisive I am. My favorite flower changes way too often, and somehow, he always keeps up and makes sure the flowers he gets me are my favorite.”
You sigh dreamily.
You begin applying your blush.
“Oh, and when I was sick two weeks ago, he would go out and get me anything I even mentioned wanting in passing.” You point to your bed.
“See that teddy?
He turns to see the large teddy bear with a red bow near its ear.
“He got that for me when I told him I was mad we aren’t allowed to sleep over in the same room yet. He even sprayed his cologne on it for me!”
Cameron smiles. “It seems like somebody really loves you,” he jokes.
“Well, I love him just as much, if not more.”
There’s a pause as you start applying your eye makeup.
“Oh, and I fell and scraped my knee when we went on a walk, and even though it barely hurt, he carried me home and then cleaned it out for me and bandaged it up!!”
Cameron huffs proudly at that. “I like that story; he protected my baby sister.”
And then you kept talking. You talked and talked about Luke until, before you knew it, your makeup was done. And flawless.
“Whoa…” you say softly, looking at yourself in the vanity mirror.
Cameron smiles softly. “You look beautiful, Bug.”
You smile big, turning around.
“Okay… time for hair!”
Your mood is completely different now compared to your earlier frustration. Now, you are excited to get ready.
You pick up your curling wand and get to work, curling and pinning up each curl as you go.
“I scored two goals in my game the other day…” Cameron speaks, seemingly out of nowhere.
You smile proudly. “I saw! I watched the game with Luke on the TV. He can tell you, but I was screaming.”
He chuckles softly. “You watch my games?”
“Always!”
And soon enough, your hair was all pinned up. Your plan from there was to get your dress on, let the curls down, and then style your hair.
“Cam?” You call.
He looks up at you, listening.
“Can you leave for a minute so I can change?” You ask, excitement clear under your words.
He nods once, smiling, and exits the room, closing the door behind him.
You turn to look at your dress, still laid out nicely on your bed. You walk over to it and take the hanger off, setting it aside as you lift your dress to your body, looking in the mirror.
It takes you a moment to pull the dress over your hips, and you struggle to zip the dress, only managing to get it halfway up.
“CAM!” You call.
“Yeah?” He calls back politely from behind the door.
“Can you come help me zip this all the way?”
The door creaks open slowly, and his eyes widen as he freezes, staring at you. He smiles softly, eyes starting to water as he gets emotional.
“Bug…” He speaks gently as he walks over and helps you zip your dress up the final few inches.
He steps back, and his smile grows as he continues to look at you.
“Are you crying?” You tease.
“I just-” He starts, and then huffs and shakes his head. “You’re all grown up, and you’re so beautiful.”
Your teasing tone drops, and you smile. You step forward, wrapping him in a hug, cautious of your makeup and unfinished hair.
“You grew up so fast…” He continues. “I remember when you were little, hiding that you had a crush on Luke until you got a little older and couldn’t keep it in. And you were so adorable. I remember the first time you admitted it to me and how I already knew. And now look at you…”
Your eyes shine ever so slightly as you try not to cry. “Cam, you’re gonna make me cry… I can’t ruin my makeup.”
That gets a laugh out of him as he pulls back. “I remember how excited I was when mom told me I was going to have a baby sister…”
You look up at him, confused. “But you were only 5 and a half?”
“Have you never heard the story?” He smiles. “When mom and dad told me I was going to have a baby sister, I started screaming about how excited I was and running around.” He lifts his pats your shoulder. “And then, when you were born, I was 6. But when mom put you in my arms for the first time?” He shakes his head and “tch’s.” “It was over. There’s a picture somewhere. I started crying, and I said I would protect you and love you forever.”
You blink back tears, smile widening. “You kept your word.”
He smiles back. “I sure did.
You hug him again. “I love you, Cam. You’re the best brother ever.”
He pulls you in tighter. “I love you too, Bug.”
“I should probably finish my hair,” You say.
“Yeah, probably.”

Luke’s pov
He fiddles with the last button of his button-up shirt, staring in the mirror.
Today is the day he goes to prom with y/n.
Is he nervous? Yes. But even then, he knows it is going to be amazing.
He picks up his tie, slinging it around his neck awkwardly. He had watched many tutorials on how to tie a tie, yet here he is, still struggling.
He lets out a frustrated groan, tugging at it in all the wrong ways.
“If only Jack or Quinn were home…” He whispers to himself, knowing that both of his older brothers are miles away, playing for the NHL.
That’s when he hears a knock at his door and an “Oh, Lukeyyy!”
Luke smiles, knowing exactly who it is. He doesn’t even reply before Jack lets himself into the room.
“Why are you here?” Luke says humorously.
“I don’t have a game for two days,” he starts. “My baby brother is going to prom! Do you really think I would miss this?” He grabs Luke’s shoulders and gently shakes him.
Luke laughs, grabbing Jack’s arms to steady himself. “I’m glad you’re here,” he starts. “I have no idea how to tie this tie, and I need help.” He turns the unevenly knotted tie towards Jack, who laughs.
“Wow, Lukey, you’re so good at this,” Jack says as he undoes the strange knot.
Luke laughs again. “Yeah, yeah, just help me out.”
So he does. Jack ties Luke’s tie, tightens it just right, and straightens it out before tucking it under his collar and stepping back.
“There you are.” Jack smiles.
Luke turns and looks in the mirror, smiling. “My tie is the same color as her dress,” he says proudly.
Jack claps him on the back. “Atta boy, Lukey.” Then, he turns and looks up at Luke’s hair. “Now you might wanna do something about this mop on your head.” He ruffles Luke’s already unstyled hair.
“Hey!” Luke exclaims, pulling back and smacking Jack’s hands, laughing. “Don’t make it worse!”
Jack laughs. “Do you need help with your hair, too, or have you matured past the age of 9?” He jokes.
Luke laughs too, lightly hitting his brother. “I know how to do my hair!”
He walks away to his bathroom, lightly dampening his hair before walking back into his room and applying his few simple products. “See,” he says. “I got it.” He scrunches his hair, making it fall into perfect curls.
“It’s really good to see you, by the way…” Luke says timidly. “I miss you when you’re in Jersey.”
Jack’s laugh fades, and a soft smile grows on his face. “I miss you when I’m in Jersey, too, Lukey.”
“Even though it’s been a while, it’s really strange going from seeing you every day to rarely seeing you at all.” Luke sighs. “Same thing with Quinn, except now I have… neither of you.”
Jack pats his shoulder and sighs. “I get it,” he starts. “I mean, I have friends on the team, but none of them really compare to you and Quinn.”
They stood in peaceful silence for a moment before Jack carefully picked up Luke’s suit jacket off the bed, holding it up for him to slip his arms through like he did when they were kids. That made Luke smile.
He slips his arms through the sleeves of the jacket as Jack lets go and smooths it out over his shoulders for him.
“Look at you, Lukey. All ready.” Jack smiles, stepping back.
Luke stares at himself for a moment before turning around and colliding hard with Jack, pulling him into a tight hug.
Jack was surprised at first, but he quickly melted into it, reciprocating the hug.
“I love you, Jack. I know I never say it, but I do. I love having you as my brother.” Luke’s words were sweet and sincere, laced with all the built-up emotions from months of separation and years of growing up together.
Jack squeezed Luke tighter, fighting the burning feeling in his eyes. “You’ve always been so sentimental. I love that about you.” He pauses. “I love you too, Lu. You’re the best little brother ever.”
There's a long pause.
“It’s 5:55, by the way,” Jack mumbles.
“I’m supposed to meet her in 5 minutes,” Luke mumbles back, not wanting to let go.
“I figured,” Jack replies.
But neither of them pulls back for another minute. Too much of their childhood was spent fighting and having the usual sibling rivalry. They both enjoy these moments of love, relishing in being together quietly.
But eventually, they do separate from the embrace.
“Go get your girl,” Jack says, smiling.

neutral pov
You had just finished the final touch-ups on your hair when you heard your front door open, your parents and Luke greeting each other.
You whipped your head towards Cameron, bouncing excitedly on your heeled feet, a huge smile plastered across your face.
Cameron smiled back at that. “Would you like me to walk you down?”
You nod eagerly. Cameron chuckles, stepping closer and offering his arm.
You giggle, walking over and taking his arm. He looks at you proudly, and the two of you begin walking.
Cameron helps you to carefully walk down the stairs, since you are in heels.
The second you emerge from the top floor, all of Luke’s breath leaves his body, and his knees go weak. He knows you’re beautiful all the time, of course, but he’s never seen you all dressed up like this.
The second you smile at him, soft and excited, it's over for him. A big dopey grin spreads over his face as he stares, unable to do anything else. You giggle as you hop off the bottom stair, letting go of Cameron and jogging towards Luke.
“What do you think?” You ask him, doing an excited 360 for him. His grin, somehow, gets dopier.
“You look-” he starts, unable to find the words. He lets out a shaky breath. “Wow.” That’s all he manages to say.
As you giggle again, looking up at him, he sheepishly presses a flower bouquet into your hands. “I- uhh- got you these,” he says nervously.
Your face lights up as you take them and smell them. “These are so beautiful,” you say.
They had daisies in them, like always.
It warmed your heart that he always made sure every bouquet had a flower that was so special to you.
You reach your arms around his neck, hugging him tight. His hands hovered awkwardly above your waist for a minute, as if he didn’t know if he was allowed to touch you. Eventually, his hands landed on your sides and pulled you in closer.
You hadn’t noticed, but Ellen and Jim had snuck their way over and were now standing beside your parents, smiling as they all watched you two.
“Pictures?” Ellen offers, snapping the two of you out of your moment as Lena held up her big camera.
You look up at Luke, who nods, and you turn back, smiling and nodding at them.
—
You all had made your way to the pretty dock on the lake in your backyard. Lena started taking a few candid shots of you two.
“Alright,” she starts. “Let's start with the classic prom pose.”
“The what-?” Luke asks, hands hovering, confusion written all over his face.
You laugh, stepping in front of him and grabbing his hands, holding them in front of you. “Like this, silly.”
“Smile!” Your parents all shout in unison.
You were both already smiling, so all you two had to do was look at the camera.
“Awhhh,” you hear your mom say. “Our youngest children are all grown up.”
All the other adults express their agreement with the statement.
Your parents direct the two of you to do lots more poses for pictures, the two of you complying and smiling with pure joy as the camera kept flashing. After a little bit, Lena speaks again.
“Alright. Any more pictures we should get?” She says.
Jack and Cameron, who have been on the side, talking to each other, speak in unison.
“Kiss,” they say.
Your parents all laugh. “Absolutely,” Ellen says.
You and Luke look at each other, shy. The two of you have kissed a bunch. Of course you have. Everybody knows it too. But you’ve never done it in front of anybody on purpose before, let alone a whole crowd of family.
He smiles at you, reassuring and grounding, though you stay sheepish. He allows you the opportunity to make the first move, and when you don’t, he leans in, holding your waist firmly and pressing his lips to yours.
Lost in the feeling, you forget about who’s watching and melt into it.
You’re snapped out of it seconds later by hearing the coos from your parents and the teasing from your brothers.
You pull away, laughing awkwardly as Luke hugs you comfortingly. Of course, that turns into another picture.
“Alright,” Lena starts. “Y/N with Cameron.” She smiles.
Luke steps aside, and you smile at your brother as he makes his way over. He hugs you from the side, the same way he always has, and the camera flashes.
“Silly face!” Josh shouts, smiling proudly as any dad would.
You and Cam laugh and make funny faces at the camera.
When you turn, you see Luke smiling at you with love in his eyes. You smile back.
As you begin walking to Luke, you hear Jim speak.
“We gotta get Jack and Luke now.”
And that escalated into you and Lena having a picture together, and you and Josh having a picture together, and you and both of them having a picture together, and the same for Luke and his parents, too.
Until finally, you were done with photos and free to head out to dinner. And that’s what you did.
You said goodbye to your families as they told you to have fun, and then ran hand in hand with Luke to his car, giggling excitedly.
He opens the door for you, stepping back proudly. You smile up at him as you get into the passenger seat.
“Thank you, Lukey.” You giggle softly.
He runs over to the other side of the car, unbuttoning his suit jacket and sitting in the driver's seat.
He turns to you with a mischievous grin.
“Wanna put on our playlist?”
Your face lights up, and you nod vigorously. “Uh,” you smile and furrow your brows. “YEAH!!!”
He starts the car, hands you the cord, and turns on Bluetooth, allowing you to connect your phone to the car. You plug your phone in and connect, navigating to Spotify on your phone and scrolling to find your playlist together.
As he starts driving to the restaurant, you find the playlist and hit “shuffle.” The first song that happens to come on is STAY by Justin Bieber and The Kid LAROI.
Even though it is more your song than his, he still learned all the lyrics so he can sing it with you because he knows you love it.
And that’s exactly what the two of you do. Sing. On the top of your lungs. You’re bopping your head(and your whole body with it, really), and tapping the dashboard to the bass.
Luke, though more controlled, focusing on the road, is tapping the steering wheel to the beat and nodding his head carefully.
You both sing, loud as can be, when you hit the second chorus. You sound great, yet for the sake of the moment, you strain your voice faintly, making it less elegant. Luke, however, sings every note off-key. You laugh while you sing, remembering all the times you’ve joked with him about how he is tone-deaf.
By the time the song ends, you’re both laughing.
“You sound like a dying rat,” you say to him through giggles.
“And you have the voice of an angel.”
You smile. Angel has been his nickname for you for a long time, and most people think it’s just an affectionate pet name, which is true, but there's more to it.
He started calling you Angel years ago because he claims you have the voice of an angel when you sing. And you’re pretty humble about your voice, but even you know that it’s pretty good.
After a few more songs and a lot more laughing, Luke parks the car at the fancy restaurant. You turn, smiling at Luke. He kills the engine and reaches a hand over to lay atop yours.
“You ready?” He asks, a huge smile painted across his face.
You nod excitedly, and that is his cue to run out of his side of the car over to yours to open the door for you. You laugh at how fast he ran to make sure you didn’t open the door yourself.
He offers his hand, and you take it as he helps you stand up and begins walking inside with you. He lets go only to hold the door for you, which you can’t complain about, and he takes your hand right back in his when he steps in behind you.
“Reservation for Hughes,” he tells the hostess, who smiles and nods, typing the name into the computer before stepping away from the desk.
“Right this way,” she says, gesturing for the couple to follow her.
When you make it to the table, the hostess sets the menus down, flashes the two of you a quick smile, and walks back to the front.
The table is softly lit by candles, and tucked in a back corner where it’s more private. You know how much Luke hates getting recognised by his brothers’ fans, so the table is absolutely perfect.
The two of you drop hands, taking your seats across from each other. The first thing you notice is how comfy the seat is. Luke must have been thinking the same thing, because you give each other the same look while sitting with the same posture. You laugh together for a moment before you pick up your menus.
Your waiter comes over to take your drink order, and you both order your usual sodas along with a glass of water.
“Everything looks so good,” you say to Luke after the waiter walks away, looking at the menu.
Luke doesn’t even look up from the menu before responding. “Tell me about it.”
It only takes the two of you about twenty minutes to figure out what to order, and the food comes rather quickly, too.
When the food is set in front of you two, you watch Luke’s expression. He always gets excited over a good meal, and it makes you giggle. When he hears your familiar laugh, he looks up at you, smiling. He doesn’t say a word, just stares at you with love in his eyes.
You can’t help but blush, smiling shyly and looking at the table, and his eyes remain locked on you.
“What?” you say, smile heard in your tone.
“Oh, nothing,” he starts. “You’re just so perfect.”
You smile even bigger, reaching across the table to take his hands in yours.
“I’m so lucky to have you, and to have had the chance to grow up with you,” you say, leaning your chin in your open hand.
Luke melts at your words, of course, but he also notices the way your eyes sparkle. The way they always have. Even when he was just 5 years old and meeting you for the first time, he had noticed the way they sparkled.
He chooses not to respond with words, and instead, he lifts your intertwined hand to his lips and presses a lingering kiss to the back of it.
“I love you,” he whispers before tugging you closer by the hand and pressing another kiss, this time to your lips.
“I love you too,” you reply.
—
When the two of you finally arrive at the fancy banquet hall where the prom is taking place, you’re practically radiating pure joy. You especially would usually be even a little bit nervous at an event like this, but knowing you’re with Luke has you more excited than ever.
Luke keeps one hand on the small of your back as he guides you through the crowded room. It makes your heart flutter the way he looks at you every few seconds to make sure you’re still ok, as if he doesn’t have a hand practically glued to you.
You end up running into a group of friends, who squeal as soon as they see you in your dress.
“y/n oh my god!” One friend shrieks.
“You look so beautiful!” Says another.
Luke smiles, letting go of you so that you can talk to them. You take a couple of steps forward, smiling and thanking them.
One friend jokingly grabs your waist, as friends do. “Can Luke fight?” She asks jokingly, glaring right at Luke when she says it, puckering up playfully just to kiss the air in front of your mouth with a loud, exaggerated “mwah.”
Shock crosses Luke’s face briefly, not having expected that, but he laughs just seconds later, shaking his head at the ridiculousness of the situation.
Even better, you are laughing, which always makes Luke even happier.
After another long moment of chatting with your friends, raving about how good each other looks, your friends shove you back towards Luke, telling you to go have fun with your man.
Luke happily receives you, his hand going immediately to the small of your back again to steady you.
As you continue walking, you spot the photographer with the backdrop and funny props. Couples and friends are getting their pictures taken, so naturally, you want to do that too.
“Can we take pictures?” You ask, puppy dog-eyed and smiling.
Luke chuckles, pressing a quick peck to your lips. “Of course, Angel.”
Luke walks you over to the photo set-up, waiting behind the photographer for her to finish taking pictures of the group ahead of you.
When the two of you are up, you step up in front of the backdrop.
“Hello,” the photographer says politely. “Would you like to do anything specific, or would you like me to pose you?”
Luke looks at you, and you look at Luke. It’s clear that the decision is up to you, so you turn back to the photographer with a smile.
“Pose us!” You exclaim, clearly excited.
The photographer laughs softly, taking one hand off her camera and pointing to the backdrop.
“You two can stand there,” she says.
—
By the time the last photo is taken, you have been in about 5 different poses, all squished together and smiling. The photographer has shown you each one and has grabbed your information so that she can send the photos to you when they are downloaded.
You and Luke are walking around again, nudging each other, giggling, and smiling, when a song comes on.
Not just any song, but the love song that the two of you had coincidentally listened to on repeat when you were both pining over each other without knowing.
Luke’s eyes light up, and he turns to you, and you do the same. As a big smile cracks on your face, Luke grabs your hand and drags you to the dance floor.
Many other couples are already spread about, gently swaying to the music.
Luke looks at you, love in his eyes, and he places both hands delicately on your waist. You follow his lead, resting your hands on his shoulders as the two of you find the rhythm, joining everyone else in swaying with your loved one.
Your eyes sparkle with adoration, which Luke notices, of course, and he smiles even harder.
He pulls you closer until you’re against his chest, and your slow dancing turns into the two of you hugging and swaying. Just moments later, Luke leans down to your ear.
“What do you say we dip early, get ice cream, and then watch a movie in my basement?” He whispers.
Your whole face lights up, and you nod enthusiastically. As soon as the song ends, Luke has your hand, and you’re both laughing while running to the exit.
—
The two of you make it back to Luke’s basement an hour later. You’re cuddled up together, wrapped in blankets, and you each have a pint of ice cream that you’re eating straight from the tub.
10 Things I Hate About You is playing, per your request, because Luke would never say no to you.
You’re both wearing Luke’s clothes, too.
“So,” Luke starts. “Did you have fun today?”
You smile, nodding vigorously. “Yes!” You exclaim.
Luke chuckles, wrapping his arm around you and pulling you closer.
“I had a lot of fun too,” he says. “I always do when I’m with you.”
You blush, looking at your lap and smiling. “You flatter me too much,” you joke.
“Mmh, no, I don’t think I flatter you enough,” he says as he presses a kiss to your temple.
You giggle again, snuggling closer to Luke and pulling the blankets higher with your free hand.
Luke scoops ice cream onto his spoon, and as he is bringing it to his mouth, you lean in fast and take the bite for yourself while laughing.
Luke stares at you blankly for a hot minute, blinking. Then, naturally, he uses the spoons to smear ice cream all over your face, with a dumb smirk plastered on his.
You gasp dramatically.
“How could you?” you joke.
Luke continues to smirk, proud.
So you lean in and start kissing all over his face, transferring the ice cream onto him as he groans and complains.
“Ewww, y/n, gross!” He exclaims, trying to pull away.
When you pull away, you laugh, seeing your revenge like a painted canvas.
“Don’t play with me,” you say jokingly.
Luke laughs, despite himself. “Noted.”
Then he grabs a napkin and begins wiping the ice cream off of your face first. When he finishes, you take another napkin and wipe it all off of his face in return.
When you are both cleaned up enough, you lean your head on his shoulder, eyes facing forwards again. You watch the movie for about 3 minutes before you drift off against him.
When Luke notices that your breath has evened out, he kisses your forehead and leans his head against yours.
“Goodnight, Angel,” he whispers.
And just minutes later, he too drifts off to sleep, peaceful and content against the love of his life.
a/n: I am so so sorry this took forever to write! I knew from the moment i finished writing y/n getting ready that it was going to be long, and i have never been to prom so i hope i did good enough!! (Also, i just had to include that picture of Luke in the divider lol)

It had been a normal morning in late fall, and you had just woken up. The sun was shining at a lovely angle through your blinds, and the sound of wind against your window made for a peaceful scene to wake up to.
It was only seconds later that you heard your parents calling for you downstairs. What could they possibly have wanted so early in the morning?
You groaned, put on a hoodie, and ran down the stairs. There, you saw Ellen, Jim, Luke, and Jack sitting at your dining room table with your parents.
As you emerged from the staircase, they were all looking at you with suspicious smiles. Of course, you were nervous at first under all their eyes. But then, Jack spoke quick and blunt.
“Do you wanna come to the beach with us in the winter?” He raised his eyebrows up and down jokingly, and everyone rolled their eyes.
“Jack, you were supposed to let Luke ask her,” Ellen said disappointedly, but not too upset.
You screamed in excitement, glanicing between everyone who was now laughing; glancing at your parents as to make sure this was real, and they nodded approvingly.
“YES!” You screamed.
⋆⋆⋆
And that’s how you got where you are now; in the backseat of the Hughes family’s car squished between Luke and Jack. Quinn is off playing hockey in Vancouver, so he can’t be there with you all, but that doesn’t mean you all won’t have fun.
The car ride, though long, is easy and full of laughter with Jack singing along to the radio loud and off key, Luke making fun of him, and you cackling as you listen.
By the end of it, all the fun has you drifting off in the backseat. When you end up falling asleep. Your head keeps whipping around with the car. So Jack, doing what every good brother and wingman would do, gently tilts you over to lean on Luke’s shoulder.
Luke’s reaction is immediate. His face heats up and turns bright red and he tries hard to be chill, but a big, cheesy smile spreads across his face. Ellen looks in the rearview mirror and smiles at the sight.
It isn’t until the car pulls into the driveway of the rented beach house that you wake up, bringing the long car ride to an end.
You slowly blink awake, finding your consciousness once again. When you realize that you’re leaning on Luke, you just smile and blush while looking up at him. He looks back down at you with a smile.
“Hi,” you say.
“Hi,” he responds.
⋆⋆⋆
After unpacking, you all collectively set up a spot on the beach to chill out. Jack is skimboarding… or- trying to. He keeps eating shit, making you all laugh from your shaded spot under the beach umbrella.
Luke keeps looking at you, and then glancing away, flustered. You don’t notice, but his mom does. She finds it adorable.
The truth is, Luke think’s you look really cute in your swim wear, but he is afraid looking at you in it is disrespectful or that it will make you uncomfortable. It’s all sweet, childish love, and he knows that he is probably overreacting, but it’s you. How could he not?
You finally look over at Luke and smile innocently, unaware of his racing heart. He just about short circuits and smiles at you with the stupidest grin ever. His dad can’t help but laugh, which only embarasses Luke more.
Ellen shakes her head. “How about you guys go… play in the water?” She suggests, hoping to save Luke from his embarrassment.
You practically jump up from your beach chair, taking Luke’s hand and running to the water. You both laugh with pure joy, sprinting to meet Jack who just ate shit again.
You both laugh at Jack, Luke pointing and cackling like a mad man, and you giggling more gracefully. Jack, however, doesn’t appreciate the humorous response to his fail. He jumps up, and before you can even process what’s going on, Jack is tackling Luke into the water.
Of course, you start cackling as mad as Luke had been, teasing Luke in the process.
“Jack! Stop!” Luke screams repeatedly, making you laugh harder.
“That's what you get, you little devil!” Jack shouts back. (subtle foreshadowing haha)
Just when you think you’re safe, Jack’s head snaps toward you.
Your eyes widen so quick and you slowly step back while shaking your head. “Jack, no…” you say calmly, trying to back away.
Jack only smiles evilly and approaches you, leaving Luke to get tackled by waves. As he gets closer, you squeal, turn around, and begin running away.
Just seconds later, you hear a loud splash and then giggling from the two boys. When you turn around, Jack is pinned underneath luke in the shallow waves, and they’re laughing hysterically together.
You start laughing too as you jog back over and begin splashing them to join in on the fun. The fear is completely forgotten as the three of you splash around in the waves together, laughing your hearts out.
⋆⋆⋆
After you all finish up on the beach for the day, you find your way to a cute little ice cream place near the board walks. You all order your ice cream, chatting and taking bites. You, however, walk away to the edge of the dock to look at the sunset.
The sky is colored in bright pinks, oranges, and yellows as the sun paints the atmosphere like a canvas as it sets along the horizon. The sight is absolutely mezmerizing, and everyone joins you in watching the sight.
All except Luke, that is.
Not because he doesn’t think the sky is beautiful, because he does. The truth is, he has a much more beautiful sight to see… you.
Luke watches over your face with wonder. The sunset paints your face in the same colors, showing you in a new light he has never seen before, literally. You’re always beautiful to him, but this is so different that it really gets him blushing.
He gets so distracted by your beauty that he doesn’t notice Jack creeping up beside him until he feels a rough nudge at his shoulder.
“Whatcha thinking about, dukes?” Jack asks jokingly since he already knows the answer.
The question snaps Luke out of his trance just enough to respond, but his eyes never leave you.
“Jack,” he starts, stars in his eyes, lost for words. “She’s perfect,” he says.
Jack smiles down at his little brother, patting his back supportingly. “You’re in deep, man.”
A small smile graces Luke’s face as he continues staring. He isn’t even ashamed anymore.
Just then, you turn to face him, smiling. You hair blows gracefully in the wind, and your smile is brighter than the setting sun in his eyes. To him, there is no person or thing as perfect as you.
“I’m gonna marry her one day,” he mumbles to Jack, smiling back at you.
“I know you will, buddy.”

Summary: Luke(now 22yo) and you(21yo) go to a bar together, expecting to have a peaceful time together. Until you walk away, and a girl shoots her shot with Luke. When you get back, you shut her attempts down.
Word count: 1,325

It isn’t too often that you and Luke get out of the apartment for events that don’t involve the team or anyone you guys know.
But every once in a while, you find yourselves at a bar, or a crowded restaurant event. Nothing too crazy, since you do not want to get involved with anything too out of the ordinary.
Like right now.
You and Luke had just entered the bar, and things were pretty crazy since the TVs were showing football playoffs. There’s an open dance floor, there's music blasting, and there are people everywhere.
Luke keeps a hand on the small of your back as the two of you walk to take a seat.
“So,” Luke starts. “Did I play well today?” He asks, referencing his game that had started around 4 and ended at 6:45.
You laugh softly, taking his hand as you sit down.
“Yes, Lu. You were amazing today.” You smile, looking him in the eyes.
He looks right back at your eyes and smiles, his sweet, adoring smile.
“You’re so beautiful,” he says, squeezing your hand from across the table.
Your smile grows, and you let out a puff of air in a soft laugh.
“You say that every day,” you reply.
He looks down and smiles. “Because it's true.”
You just about melt at that.
“And I’ve seen you grow up, Angel. You’ve been beautiful forever.”
You squeeze his hand, reaching with your other hand to tilt his chin up.
“You’re not so bad yourself,” you tease.
He chuckles at that.
After a couple of minutes of chatter, you stand up.
“I’m gonna go use the bathroom,” you say. “I’ll go order our drinks after. What would you like?”
He tells you what he wants, and then you press a quick kiss to his hand before letting go.
“Okay,” you start. “I won’t be gone long, don’t miss me too much.”
You both laugh as you walk away, leaving Luke alone.
He looks up at one of the TVs, getting so invested in a football game that he doesn’t notice somebody else taking your seat.
“Hey,” says a cocky voice, slurred and tipsy.
Luke looks down in front of him, and there, in your seat, sits a girl with long blonde hair.
“Uhhh,” Luke starts, confused. “Hi?” He quirks an eyebrow.
The woman leans closer against the table, chin propped on her fist as she smirks. Luke leans back, but she only leans closer.
“You’re that hockey player, aren’t you?” She drags the words out, trying to sound tempting.
“I uhm… yeah, that would be me.” Luke makes sure to stay polite, but alert.
The girl throws one of her legs over the other, leaning closer and tilting her head with feined innocence.
“You’re cuter in person,” she says, placing on hand on his side of the table.
“Thanks?” Luke laughs awkwardly, unsure of what to do. He wants to tell her to go away, to leave him alone, that he has a girlfriend and that this isn’t okay. But he’s scared. What if she turns it into a whole thing?
“Soooo…” she draws out. “Are you here with anyone?”
Luke moves back a few inches, trying to maintain as much distance he can without being rude. He realizes this is the perfect opportunity to try and get this girl to leave him alone.
“Yes, actually,” he starts. “I’m here with my girlfriend.”
The girl raises an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.
“A girlfriend? Please.” she says. “You’re an athlete. I’m sure its not that serious.”
Luke’s eyes widen in disbelief. “Excuse me?”
“I’m just saying,” she says. “Just break up with her. You’ll feel so free and you have so many better options.”
Luke is stunned from pure disbelief and shock. The audacity of this woman.
“Okay, I was trying to be nice, but what is your problem?” he says.
She scoffs and rolls her eyes, leaning closer. “I mean it.”
Just then, you come back with a drink in each of your hands and see Luke with his chair nearly two feet away from the table, clearly uncomfortable, and across from him is a random skinny blonde in your seat.
“Oh, hell no.” you mutter under your breath.
You approach, anger written all over your face. Luke looks relieved to see you back.
You slam the drinks on the table unintentionally, but not hard enough to splatter the beverages across the table.
“Hey, I believe you’re in my seat,” you say, glaring right at the girl.
The girl looks you up and down with a judgemental expression, one eyebrow raised.
“So you’re the girlfriend he was talking about?”
You smile aggitatedly. “Yeah, that would be me.”
The girl stands up, walking closer to you, sizing you up. “What makes you think you’re so special? He’s an athlete. He’ll leave the second he’s bored.”
You scoff. “Who are you to make assumptions about my relationship?”
She steps even closer. “Who are you to talk to me like that.”
You look at Luke in utter disbelief, to which he shakes his head and shrugs in his disbelief.
“I think you already know. I’m his girlfriend.”
“Yeah, thats not gonna last. Sorry, honey,” the woman says condescendingly.
You step closer, angry now. “Okay, what is your problem? What part about ‘he has a girlfriend’ do you not understand? He is off limits.”
She scoffs again, crossing her arms and shifting her weight to one hip. “And how long have you been together? A week?”
You glare at her, eyes squinted and angry. “Seven years,” you say through clenched teeth.
The girl’s eyes widen, clearly not having expected that. “I- what?”
You step closer as she steps back. “You heard me. Seven years.”
The girl starts stuttering, lost for words as she searches her head for any sort of comeback. Her cheeks grow red in embarrassment for her assumption.
“Back off,” you say.
She tries to find any words to get back at you, not wanting to lose, but her attempts fail. She glances over at Luke, who is crossing his arms and rasing an eyebrow at her, then looks back at you.
She gulps, nervous now. “Yeah, okay,” she says, squeaky and embarrassed.
And just like that, she scurries away.
Relief crashes over you as you sigh, tension leaving your body. You pivot and sit back down across from Luke, who scoots his chair back up to the table, leaning slightly over it to be closer to you.
When you look up, Luke is reaching for your hands across the table and smiling at you.
“I didn’t know you had that fight in you,” he says.
You smile back, taking his hands in yours like he wanted. “Me neither, to be honest.”
He chuckles softly, clearly proud of you. “Thank you for that. I couldn’t get her to leave me alone.”
You laugh back. “Anything for you,” you say teasingly.
Luke’s smile slowly shifts to a smirk.
You quirk an eyebrow. “What’s that look for?” you ask.
Luke squeezes your hands. “Oh, nothing,” he says suspiciously.
You tilt your head and look into his eyes, trying to pull his words out of him.
He chuckles again. “It was honestly really hot what you did there,” he says.
You laugh, slapping his hand softly. “Luke!”
“What?” he says. “I mean it!”
The two of you laugh together, and he leans over the table, connecting his lips to yours in an appreciative kiss.
You melt into it, squeezing his hand tighter.
When he pulls back, he lifts his drink in a “cheers” motion.
“To my little bodyguard,” he says.
You giggle, lifing your drink and clinking your glass against his.
“To your loving girlfriend,” you correct jokingly.
“That works too.” he smiles.
And the two of you drink, laugh, and glance lovingly, completely forgetting about the awkward encounter.
Because all the matters to the two of you is the person sitting across the table.
a/n: guys i am so sorry this is so ass. I've been so out of it and it shows in my writing. I'll try to get better again i promise.

It’s days like these where you wish you could stay like this forever; a middle-class college student with the best boyfriend ever. Even better? He’s an athlete, and he isn’t nonchalant about his love for you.
When Luke has games he knows you won’t be attending, he gives you his room key, knowing you find his place more comforting than your own. Plus, it’s always a nice surprise to get back post-game and find you in his room.
Like right now. Luke had given you his key hours ago while pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“I love you, Angel. I’ll see you later,” he had said.
And now he’s in the middle of a game. Meanwhile, you’re in his bedroom, straightening up and folding his laundry. You have no work for once, so you figured hanging out at your boyfriend’s place and making sure he comes back to a clean bedroom is a good way to spend your time.
Except you get sleepy very quickly from sitting on his bed and smelling his scent all around you. You decide to lie down on his pillow and rest your eyes for just a minute. But the next thing you know, you’re asleep.
⋆⋆⋆
When Luke gets back to his place, he throws his bag down with a sigh. As he enters his room, he smiles upon the sight of you hugging his pillow in gentle sleep, surrounded by his folded clothes.
He takes four long strides towards his bed and sits down next to your sleeping body. His hand moves to brush a strand of hair off your cheek gently, and your face scrunches. Your eyes blink awake, and you half-consciously look up at Luke, who is smiling down at you.
“Good morning, Angel,” he jokes, since it is definitely not morning.
You smile, inching closer to him so that your face can rest against his thigh. “Mmh, hi,” you say sleepily.
Luke leans down and presses a soft kiss to your forehead, lingering for a moment before pulling back and running his fingers through your hair.
“How was your game?” You ask, voice quiet but full of excitement.
He chuckles softly and pats your head. “It went well; we won,” he starts. “I did get sent to the penalty box a couple times, though…”
You laugh quietly in return. “Sounds like something you’d do.” You tilt your head a little closer to him, press a gentle kiss to his thigh, and then lean your head against it again.
Luke sighs happily as he brushes his hand over your hair once more. “Can we cuddle?” He asks sheepishly.
A smile tugs at your lips, and you nod, rolling over to give him space and opening your arms invitingly. He doesn’t even hesitate before he slides down next to you, pulling you close to his body.
He nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck, and you can feel the warm puffs of his breath against your jawline. He presses multiple sweet kisses to your neck before resting his head back against you.
Luke sighs, sleepy now. “I love you,” he says, voice muffled against you.
You smile against his hair, wrapping your arms tightly around him. “I love you too,” you say.
And soon, both of you have drifted off into a warm, peaceful sleep in each other’s arms.
⋆⋆⋆
A couple of days later, you are hunched over a library table with textbooks open in an array in front of you. You groan as you read through the same section again, still trying to understand. To your dismay, it still makes no sense.
You hear people around you start to laugh quietly, so you roll your eyes, naturally, since you’re trying to focus. But then, you look up.
And you see what they’re laughing at.
Outside of the library window is a very goofy, very excited Luke, jumping up and down and waving at you with a big dopey grin on his face. His friends are standing beside him, laughing and shaking their heads in amusement.
Your eyes widen like saucers, and you look around you frantically, hoping nobody sees that it’s you he’s waving at, but everyone is looking between the two of you.
You groan, burying your face in your hands as you stand up. “Where does he get his confidence…” You mutter to yourself.
You walk quickly out of the library and over to where he’s now laughing hysterically with his friends. When you get close enough, he lifts you off the floor and squeezes you.
You squeal in shock, kicking your legs in an attempt to get down, but he just squeezes you tighter.
“Luke!” You yelp. “Put me down!”
“Never!” He shouts jokingly. “I haven’t seen you in two days! I’m never letting go!” Luke begins rapidly pressing loud kisses all over your face as his friends cackle. You groan and squirm in annoyance, muttering your disapproval, but he doesn’t let up.
“Luke,” you start. “I love you, but unlike you, I actually have social awareness.” He finally sets you down, but continues squeezing you.
Then, he spins you around and hoists you up over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He is naturally much stronger, so there isn’t much you can do.
“Luke, what the hell!” You shreik. You feel your cheeks heat up in embarrassment as you catch a glimpse of everyone in the library still laughing at your exchange. “You’re so embarrassing! Put me down!”
Luke obeys, looking at you with puppy dog eyes and an exaggerated pout. “I’m embarrassing you?” He says with a fake wounded voice.
You frown even though you know he’s joking. “Luke,” you whine. “Don’t do that… You know what you’re doing and it’s not fair…”
Then, a smile cracks on his face. He hugs you again, gentler this time. “I was doing it on purpose,” he says. “You’re cute when you’re embarrassed.”
You roll your eyes, squeezing him and patting his back in return. You drag the hug out, silently, and Luke places an occasional kiss to your head.
Then, all of a sudden, you hear the unmistakable sound of one of Luke’s friends clearing their throat.
“Right,” you start, pulling away. “You all are still here.”
Luke chuckles, pulling back and looking at all of them. “You guys can go, I’m gonna hang out with her for a little bit.” Luke pulls you close to his side, hand rubbing your shoulder.
Your eyes widen. “But Lukey, I have to study,” you say. He leans down to press a kiss to your forehead as his friends take their exit.
“I’ll be quiet, I promise…”
…Is what he had said. Except he does always have a way of being quite distracting.
“What’s this?” He asks, pointing to a diagram in your textbooks as he leans all the way over the table. You sigh, shaking your head and huffing a quiet laugh.
“What happened to ‘I’ll be quiet,’ Luke?” You ask, quirking an eyebrow and placing your hand over his.
He smiles. “I can’t help it,” he starts. “You’re just so smart, and you’re so perfect. I wanna know what my Angel is learning about.”
You smile, leaning your head against his chest. “You’re pretty cute when you aren’t trying too hard,” you joke, referencing his earlier commotion.
Luke chuckles, pressing a quick kiss to your lips.
“I’m always cute.”
a/n: i tried my best with this! Obviously, I don't know what college is like, so I hope this is good!! I love these two so much, and I love writing for them :)) I hope you enjoy too!! I would love to write more of their college love, so if my requests are open, feel free to request it!

I’ve had this thought in my head for a bit, but you know how fans compare luke to snoopy. I’m wondering in knd series if reader ever would refer to luke as snoopy whether it was from seeing fans post or a nickname reader gave him one day and is surprised to see fans referring to him as snoopy also.
I absolutely love this series I’m a sucker of childhood friends to lovers! Keep up the amazing work. <3

Summary: You(19) find out that Luke(20)'s fans call him Snoopy, and you immediately fall in love with the idea, connecting with you through nostalgia, because Snoopy was your favorite character as a kid. You tease him out of love and make a few impulsive purchases! (he falls even more in love.)

Takes place: Some weekend in April of 2024
Off-time from college was always something you looked forward to now that Luke was in New Jersey, playing for the Devils. You never see him around campus anymore, which breaks your heart. Especially, anytime you see a spot you two would study in together.
But now, you were on a short break, which meant for a few days, you were down in New Jersey, sharing a room with Luke as you joined in his and Jack’s chaos for the time being.
You were curled up on the couch of Luke’s living room, scrolling on your phone as he cooked dinner for you, Jack, and himself.
You were watching edits of your boyfriend, figures. You always loved seeing what people posted of your boyfriend on social media, knowing that he is yours, and these people you see will never have him. In addition, the thirst edits were something you always enjoyed and sometimes teased him about.
Along with that, you were scrolling through hashtags of his name on TikTok when you came across this trend of people comparing him to Snoopy, the dog from Peanuts.
As a kid, you were always amused by Snoopy when you watched the show. You always thought Snoopy was so cute and so funny, and as a baby, he made you laugh. Seeing people compare your boyfriend to one of your favorite characters of all time intrigued you, so you looked more into this trend.
There were pictures of Luke’s face while in the penalty box next to Snoopy, along with comparisons of other facial expressions, too. You couldn’t help but smile at how accurate it was.
All of a sudden, a long video compilation of clips of Luke compared to Snoopy came up, and it was so hilariously accurate that as soon as you looked up at Luke in the kitchen, who happens to be making the same frustrated face as one of the clips, you burst out laughing.
Luke looked up immediately, alert at the sudden noise. When he realized you were laughing at him, he got really confused and slightly concerned.
“What’s so funny?” he asked, to which you just laughed harder. Jack, who had been silently on the other side of the couch, moved closer to look at her phone. He smirked and laughed softly, too.
“Ohhhh, she found it,” he said mischievously.
“Found what?” Luke asked, nervous now.
“Why don’t you tell me, Snoopy?” you say, laughing a little bit less now.
Luke groans and puts his face in his hand, elbows on the counter. “Noooo, that’s what you found?” he says. “I was hoping you would never see that. I knew you would make fun of me…” His sassy tone and his pout made you feel bad, even if you knew he was just messing with you.
You stood up, guilty, and walked over to him by the counter, wrapping your arms around his tall frame from behind, clutching his shirt tightly like you always did.
“I’m sorry,” you say. You tilt your head up, catching his eye over his shoulder with big eyes of your own.
He peels his hands away from his face and turns in your arms to face you, wrapping his own arms around your middle. He smiles. “Don’t be sorry, I was just kidding.”
“But I feel bad…” You pout, pulling a soft chuckle out of him as he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“It’s okay, Angel. Really.” He looks down at you with love in his eyes, playing with the ends of your hair that fall on your shoulder blade.
“Whatever you say.” You lean into him, holding him tighter.
“But I think Snoopy suits you. I only laughed because of how accurate it was. It’s actually really cute.”
“Yeah?” He smirks.
“Yeah.”
-
After that moment, every time he showed any sort of frustration, silliness, clumsiness, or anything even slightly comparable to the cartoon dog, you were there, calling him Snoopy.
Luke stood at the kitchen sink, scrubbing at some stubborn residue on a pan. His tongue poked out of the corner of his mouth in concentration, while his eyebrows were furrowed, focused.
To you, he looked super cute. You stood up from the counter where you sat and made the move to walk over and gently grab his bicep with both hands.
“Need help, Snoopy?” You smiled. You knew what you were doing.
His face fell to something soft. Not a smile, but something full of adoration. “You’re never gonna let that go, are you?”
“No.” You smile proudly, squeezing his flexed muscle.
“But no, thank you, Angel. I don’t need any help. You can go relax.” He smiles. “Leave it to me.”
You roll your eyes and step impossibly closer to him, standing under his arm now. You reach for a dish anyway.
“I'm helping,” you demand, not giving him much of a choice.
“But Angel-”
“But Snoopy…”
His mouth quirks into a smile and scoffs softly. “How can I resist you when you’re being so cute?” He asks.
“You can’t,” you say proudly, earning a laugh.
He lifts his hand, wet from the sink, and ruffles your hair into a frizzy mess before pressing a sweet kiss to the top of your head.
“Hey!” You exclaim, laughing as you shove him away gently.
And as you continued to laugh in the kitchen, the name was left forgotten temporarily.
-
Luke had thought seeing a Snoopy cap at the store, and you forcing him to buy it for himself, was the worst of it.
He was wrong.
Very.
Because when you walked back into the apartment with three package boxes, he should have known.
You walk directly into the living room, plopping down on the floor with the boxes in front of you.
Curious, Luke walked in and took his seat on the couch in front of you. When you meet his eyes, he quirks and eyebrow. “What could all this possibly be?” He asks.
You just smile and say “you’ll see,” suspiciously.
He shakes his head and watches as you use your nails to rip the tape open on all of the packages.
The first thing you pull out? A stuffed Snoopy. Just like the one you had as a kid. You smile bigger and hold it up to him.
“When I found out that people call you Snoopy, it reignited my love for Snoopy that I had when I was little.” You turn the stuffie in you arms to look at his face before turning him back towards Luke. “Look! He’s so cute! And he looks just like the one I had as a kid!”
The smile on your face gave Luke one of his own. A soft, loving smile that made everything feel brighter.
Just then, you realize something else and set Snoopy in your lap as you dig through the box again. Just seconds later, you pull out a mini Devils jersey. One that was definitely meant for babies. You hold it up to Luke, like you did Snoopy.
That was when he noticed his last name stitched across the back along with the big number “43” below it and on both of the sleeves. He raises an eyebrow.
“For Snoopy!” You say excitedly and you begin trying to slide the jersey over the stuffed animal’s big head.
He chuckles softly. “You love this whole nickname thing way too much.”
You look up at him, pausing what you’re doing and quirking an eyebrow. “You don’t get it. It’s all just so… perfect…” You pause, your face forming a small smile of love and nostalgia. “I loved Snoopy so much as a kid. He was my absolute favorite television character. And now…” You look up at him, smile widening.
“It’s my nickname…” He finishes for you, smiling bigger.
“And not only that,” you add. “But I didn’t even come up with it! Your fans did. It was all coincidence, and yet something so beautiful and so perfect.”
You manage to get the mini jersey onto Snoopy, holding him up triumphantly as you stand and make the move to sit next to Luke on the couch.
“He looks just like me,”
“He looks just like you,”
You both joke at the same time.
You stare at each other for a beat before bursting out laughing together.
As your laughter dies down, he pulls you closer to himself and smiles down at you before placing a soft kiss to your temple.
“Never change,” he says happily. “You’re perfect.”
Your own smile widens into a cheesy grin. The same one you’ve had ever since all your teeth grew in. You don’t say anything in return. You don’t need to. Instead, you lean in, hands pressed flat on his chest, lips meeting his in a kiss.
“My Snoopy…” You whisper against his lips.
His lets out a soft huff. “My Angel,” he whispers back.
And your stuffed Snoopy sat there, propped up on the floor, a symbol of your love since being dumb kids.
Oh, how you both have grown.

Luke had planned it for weeks. He was finally gonna ask you out after years of pining over you. Jack had bothered him about it enough, begging him to just do it because it was annoying seeing the two of you acting like you’re just best friends.
So he had this whole plan to ask you out on Valentine's Day with flowers.
He got too scared and completely chickened out of it. So the two of you spent Valentine’s Day as “Friend Valentines,” as you had asked, which honestly crushed him and his poor, “pathetic little heart.
Jack was mad at Luke for missing his chance, and Luke had tried to beg Jack for help, but all he did was tell him to go bother Cameron.
Luke panics at first. He is way too scared to tell your older brother of all people that he has a crush on you, but he trusts Cam, so he does it anyway.
He runs next door and knocks on the front door, hoping it’s anyone but you who answers the door. Thankfully, Cameron is the one who opens the door.
“Can I talk to you?” Luke asks nervously, fidgeting with his hands. Cam nods, letting Luke in. He walks Luke up to his bedroom, where no one can overhear the conversation.
They both sit down on Cameron’s bed, looking at each other. Cameron looks at Luke, listening, and Luke looks… nervous.
“I-” Luke starts, looking down at his lap and fidgeting with his hands. “I really like your sister.”
Cameron raises an eyebrow.
Luke looks up, and his eyes widen, worried that Cam is about to kill him. “I knew you would be mad if I told you!” Luke starts panicking internally, only for Cameron to burst out laughing.
Luke freezes, shocked and confused about why he would be laughing. “What?” Luke asks.
“You really thought that was a secret?” Cam asks, another laugh at the edge of his voice.
Luke’s face turns beet red. “You knew? It was that obvious?” He covers his face with his hands in embarrassment.
“Luke, buddy,” Cameron starts. “Everybody knows.”
Luke groans, looking everywhere but at Cameron.
“But,” he adds. “She likes you, too. A lot.”
Luke looks back up at Cameron, eyes wide and unsure. “You mean she likes me, too? Like… like-like?”
Cameron scoffs and shakes his head in disbelief. “It is crazy how unaware you are. Yes, she likes you too, and it is so insufferable watching you two pine over each other all the time.”
“That’s what Jack said,” Luke mumbles
Cameron laughs again.
Luke takes a deep breath and looks at Cam hopefully. “Well, how do I ask her out?”
Cameron’s eyes widen with glee. “You mean you’re finally gonna do it?” He asks with excitement.
“Yes, and I don’t wanna mess up, so help me!” Luke raises his voice just a bit, clearly fed up with the teasing.
Cam holds his hands up in surrender as he laughs. “Okay, okay, I’ll help you!” He scoffs. “What do you want help with?”
Luke deadpans, sighing in frustration. “I want to know how to effectively ask her out!”
Suddenly, Cameron gets more serious. “Listen, Luke,” he says. “She really likes you. And usually I wouldn’t be one to spill my sister’s business like that, but I know you’re a good kid,” he adds. “Plus, I really want you two to get together.”
Luke nods, listening.
“If you wanna ask her out, I wouldn’t have the answers for you on how to do it,” Cameron says.
“What?” Luke exclaims, clearly caught off guard at the last statement. “What do you mean? You don’t know? You have to know.”
Cameron chuckles again, placing a firm hand on Luke’s shoulder. “You and y/n are best friends; two peas in a pod. You know what I mean. If you want to ask her out, you need to think long and hard about what you feel is the right way to do it.”
Luke nods, eyebrows furrowed deep in thought. “You’re right,” Luke says to him, wheels turning in his head. You like calm conversations when they’re about important things. You wouldn’t want some extravagant proposal for this matter. Then, he looks up, smiling. “I know what to do.”
Cameron pats Luke’s shoulder. “Go get her, kid.”
Luke grabs Cam’s hand in silent thanks, a huge smile plastered on his face. Then, he takes off running.
He runs all the way behind your house, looking around the back yard where he knows you will be. He glances around, finally spotting you in the porch swing with a book in hand.
“Y/n,” he calls, smiling while jogging to you. You look up, closing your book and smiling excitedly at the sight of your best friend.
“Hi, Luke!” You exclaim, patting the spot beside you on the swing.
Luke’s sudden burst of confidence disappears when he gets close. He nervously takes his seat next to you, looking down at his lap.
“Luke?” You question, knowing something is wrong immediately. “What’s wrong?
“I, uh-...” he stutters. “I have to ask you something.
You smile at him, expectantly, not saying a word. Luke looks up, face red and anxious, but a faint smile is stuck on his face.
“Y/n, uhm… I have to be honest.” Luke takes a deep breath, bringing himself to spill the long-awaited words. “I like you. More than as a friend.”
There is a moment of silence. Your eyes widen in shock, and you can feel your heart pounding. You can hardly believe it. Luke looks up and immediately starts panicking.
“Oh god, why did I say that?” He squeaks.
You start giggling uncontrollably at his nervousness. That makes Luke even more scared. He is under the impression that you are laughing at him because you don’t feel the same.
“Luke,” you start, still giggling. “I like you too.”
Luke is caught completely off guard, not having expected that, even with everyone’s repeated assurance that the feeling is indeed mutual.
“You do?” He asks, body melting into something more relaxed.
“Yes, Lukey, I do.” You smile at him sheepishly, blush dusting over your cheeks now, too.
A huge smile grows on Luke’s face, and he practically jumps to hug you. You laugh again, squeezing him around his shoulders.
“This is the best day of my life!” He shouts, clearly very excited.
You push back the urge to kiss his cheek in that moment, squeezing him even tighter instead. “Mine too,” you reply, still giggling softly.
“So,” Luke starts. “What does that make us now?” He asks, pulling back to look at you face-to-face.
You smile at him. “Do you wanna be my boyfriend?” You ask, voice soft and nervous.
Luke nods quickly like an excited puppy.
You giggle yet again. “Good,” you say. “Because I wanna be your girlfriend.”
Luke giggles like a little girl as you hug again, but he doesn’t care. Because he knows you will love him just the way he is.
a/n: not my best work, but I tried my best! I always love writing for these two; they're so precious! I hope you like the way I had this play out :)

Summary: Luke(17yo) gets drafted, and the happiness is everywhere! But unfortunately, you have to have the difficult conversation about your future together. Though he doesn't actually play for the Devils for a while, you(just turned 17yo) will still be in college.
Word count: 1,730
Warnings/themes: Luke Hughes x f!reader, fluff, angst if you really squint, mayber cursing(i dont remember), lowkey a little emotional.
Takes place: July 23, 2021
Sitting with Luke and his family in his living room, different hats and jerseys spread in front of him on the coffee table, and waiting for his name to be called is a moment you have waited for since you met him; and now that it’s actually happening, it feels surreal.
Ever since the day you saw him play hockey for the first time, you knew he would make it big. The only question was “when?” And now, you’re sitting here with him at the 2021 NHL draft, waiting for his moment.
Luke is sitting on a couch in front of you, sandwiched between his two very anxious older brothers. You sit behind him, squeezed between Ellen and Jim. More family and close friends fill the whole room behind you. You are squeezing Ellen’s hand, and she’s squeezing yours back just as tight. You’re both endlessly nervous and excited.
Your parents are watching from home because they figured such a big moment in Luke’s life should be spent with only those he is closest to, though they couldn’t be prouder of him. They see him as part of the family since they have known him for so long.
Luke turns back to you suddenly and smiles a big, warm grin. You find yourself smiling back, and you each lean forward enough for your noses to touch.
“Are you excited?” You ask with a grin, to which Luke’s smile widens, and he presses a quick kiss to your nose.
“I’m very nervous,” he replies. “How are you feeling about this?” He asks you.
You giggle, nudging your nose against his. “I’m nervous too,” you reply. “I want you to make it.” You sigh, stopping for just a moment. “But today is all about you, so don’t try to make me feel better or anything,” you joke.
Luke smirks, nudging his nose against yours again before connecting his lips with yours in a warm, lingering kiss. You melt into it, your hands finding his cheek and shoulder as you lean closer. It isn’t until Jack speaks that you’re snapped out of your trance.
“Not the time, lovebirds,” he jokes. “Smooching is for after.” Everyone seems to find that funny, based on the sound of laughing coming from all around you. Your cheeks heat up, and a faint pink brushes over them while Luke laughs, pressing one more quick peck to your cheek.
It feels like days are going by as other names get picked and presented. You are zoned out on Luke, just admiring how perfect he is as he sits and waits while joking with his brothers.
Finally, you’re brought back to reality when Ellen nudges you.
“With the fourth overall pick,” you hear. You hold your hands tightly to your mouth, sitting nervously at the edge of your seat. If there's one team you all want Luke to go to, it’s the Devils. Of course, Detroit would be your ideal because it’s closer to home, but he wouldn’t get to see you that often, and at least in New Jersey, he would have Jack.
“The New Jersey Devils are proud to present-...” the announcer mistakes. “Pick,” he corrects himself, and everybody laughs.
You place a nervous hand on Luke’s shoulder from behind, and Luke pats it with his hand.
“From the USA Development program,” he continues. You already know that it is, indeed, Luke. So does everybody else.
“Luke Hughes!” The speaker finishes, and everyone in the room starts cheering. You shoot up, along with Luke and his brothers. You already feel the tears in your eyes; you have known Luke since he was just a little kid with dreams, and now, his dreams have come true.
Jack seems to be the most excited, as evidenced by the way he is jumping up and down and practically tackling Luke with hugs. Quinn is all over him, too, and you can tell how proud he is of his baby brother.
Luke spends a long while hugging and celebrating with his brothers before he migrates behind the couch to hug his parents. They squeeze him and kiss his head, expressing their pride.
And then, his eyes lock on you, crying and smiling bigger than ever. Luke’s own smile grows impossibly bigger as he walks over to you. He reaches his arms out before he can even reach you, and when he does, he wraps his arms around your waist, almost too tight, but you don’t mind. He buries his face in your hair, and you sob into his chest.
“I’m so proud of you,” you choke out. Luke giggles at you, pleased with your reaction. He wouldn’t expect anything less from you. He even feels himself tearing up just from seeing you cry, even if it’s happy tears.
He pulls back just enough to press a long kiss to your forehead, and then several quick ones. “I couldn’t have gotten here without you, Angel,” he says.
You both pull back, leaving your arms tightly around each other. You laugh through sobs, and he laughs at the situation. His hand finds the back of your head, and he slowly pulls you towards him. He gives you every chance to stop, and you don’t.
Your lips meet in a warm kiss, one that displays all the love, pride, and happiness you both feel. You don’t pull away, and the kiss lasts. It isn’t heated at all. It’s all pure love and devotion.
The two of you barely stop for air as you continue the kiss. It’s the collective “awhh” from everyone in the room that finally snaps you out of it. Luke chuckles as you bury your face in his neck in embarrassment.
He gently rubs the back of your head in a soothing manner, attempting to ease your embarrassment. “It’s okay, baby,” he says. “They love us,” he adds.
You pull away and smile up at him without saying a word. You don’t need to. He can practically read your mind. Luke lifts his hand and uses his thumb to wipe your leftover tears away.
—
Late at night, after everything has died down and family has gone their separate ways, you and Luke lie in his bed, riding the high of this huge change. You are so incredibly proud of him and happy for him, and he is so excited. But there’s something that keeps distracting him.
“Angel?” He finally says.
You turn your head to look at him lying beside you, eyes glimmering with pure joy. “Hm?” You acknowledge.
Luke sighs, taking your hand in his. “This is huge… I’m going to be playing for the NHL within the next few years,” he starts. “Like… the big leagues!”
You smile at him, giggling softly at his excitement. You nod, squeezing his hand. “Yes, you are, and I am so proud of you, my love,” you reply.
Luke smiles back, leaning in closer. “But…” He starts, and you get nervous, your smile falling slightly. “That means that I would be moving to New Jersey,” he adds. “I wouldn’t be home with you except for my breaks.”
You sigh, frowning at the thought. You always knew this would happen, you just never wanted to think about it, or even talk about it. Because in your mind, now that it’s become a subject of conversation, that makes it all the more real.
He sees your frown, and it makes him sad. He hates seeing you upset, even if it’s small. “So that’s why I wanted to ask if you would move in with me once I go?”
Your eyes light up, but only for a moment before you start calculating things in your head. You sparkle dulls, and you look at him sadly again. “I want to, Lu. So bad you don’t even understand it,” you say to him.
“But?” He asks for you, frowning since he knows what’s coming.
“I’ll be in college,” you say sadly. “You’ll be there until you sign with the Devils, which is amazing, and I am so proud of you, don’t get me wrong,” you add. “But I don’t have dreams like yours. I want to fulfill my whole college career—four whole years. Maybe even five,” you tell him.
Sadness washes over Luke’s face. He knew that this was exactly what you would say, but that doesn’t stop it from hurting. The two of you have been together all the time since you were four and five years old. Even the thought of possibly going to different colleges makes his heart feel like it’s being ripped in half.
You lean in and rest your forehead against Luke’s to provide him with comfort. As much as you want to be with Luke every day for the rest of your lives, you know that your dreams are also important. You know Luke and you are forever, so it is a difficult pick, but you know what you want, and you know he understands, even if it does make you both sad.
Luke pulls you closer, and he buries his face in your neck. You wrap your arms around him, squeezing him tightly. “I’m just gonna miss you,” he says.
“I’m gonna miss you too,” you reply softly. “But hey,” you start. “We probably have a whole summer together before you go to college, and then if I get into UMich too, we will have another year or two,” you say, attempting to cheer him up.
“It’s not the same…” He mumbles against your neck. You smile affectionately, playing with his hair. You love how clingy he is. You wouldn’t take him any other way.
“Let’s not focus on the sad stuff right now,” you say to him. “You’re going to be a professional hockey player. That’s huge!” You giggle softly, fluffing his hair aggressively yet gently. “Lighten up, hockey boy!”
That manages to get a smile out of Luke, and he pulls away from your chest to look at you. He props himself up on one elbow, letting out a huff as you let go of his hair.
Then, he just stares at you with a smile.
“What?” You ask him.
His smile grows. “You’re so perfect, Angel,” he says. “Perfect for me,” he adds. He leans in and presses a quick kiss to your lips. You giggle, leaning into it.
“I could say the same about you, my pretty Devil.”
a/n: Tbh, I am not very well educated on the nhl draft, so i did a bunch of research and wrote this whole thing based off of luke's actual draft! Thats why i had to change up the request a little bit, but i reallu hope you can still enjoy this!!
