i love ranting about suyin in my drafts it’s so calming
to put it plainly: it’s obvious kuvira always thought she was a monster ever since she was disowned after hurting her mother. in a perfect world, she would’ve gotten the support she needed to learn that she wasn’t a monster but a child with issues. in reality she never really had a chance to NOT become a monster because suyin never acted like she actually loved kuvira when she needed that clarification the most.
su barley acknowledged her as part of the family in public on top of really only taking her in to fuel her savior complex, she encouraged her to join/forced her into the military when it was OBVIOUS to anyone who had a rough childhood and a brain that Kuvira was not mentally stable enough to do that, tried to assassinate her...twice (can you spell trauma and trust issues) and then treated her like a monster right up until her house arrest sentence in ruins of the empire. to me, it’s not very surprising kuvira became the monster her father thought she was when he first sent her away when suyin treated her like it from the very beginning.
