I can't wait to be 30 and have my life together.
-Apink, One&Six
To be wise
I walk And talk And rhyme as I climb A mountain And when I get to the top I stop and look at life's fountain And see How without me The world has twirled on Even when I was gone I was just a pawn In life's little game Just a little flame But all the same It's a spark that starts a revolution And that is my moral constitution Fight for what is right Be the light in the night And never ever lose sight Of my moral compass Because my hourglass Will pass Before my eyes So I need to learn to be wise

Why do I comunicate with girls so rare? Just because only girls can take offense because of stupidity and make tragedy out of it. They scrupulously delve into the minutiae and find the non-existence of motives, but don’t figure out the problem to close the question. When something doesn’t like it - say it, and don’t create problems around your strangled self-esteem. Being an adult means being wise. To be wise means not to encourage one's self-esteem. Just want to say: Girls, don’t be so stupid.
On Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom (Or why not to be an Armchair Esotericist)
Knowledge. A corner stone of our work, one of the basic foundational principles which guides us. I’ve rarely met anyone who I respected as a magician who did not take time out of their day to study diverse realms of learning.
There is a term which gets tossed around frequently nowadays in the realm of occultism, and that is the idea of an “Armchair Esotericist”. These people learn, sometimes they have more raw data than their more practical brothers and sisters. Often they will practice some basic ritual and follow a schedule, even keeping a journal of the results. So what makes this undesirable? What makes this phenomenon so ridiculed to the point where the insult will be tossed around like a hot potato?
The answer, I think, lies in the way knowledge is viewed and used. We currently live in a day and age wherein nearly anything we wish to know lies only a few button presses away from our faces. This is raw data, raw information, and we have more access to it than at any point throughout history. A portion of people will recognize this, and utilize the massive advantage it provides. These people translate information to knowledge, which I tend to define as usable data. This is the line we all must cross to enter the realm of the esotericist, armchair or not. The difference lies in how this knowledge is then used. For the armchair esotericist, however, this is where the journey ends. Information is translated to knowledge, collected and archived, then more information is sought to add to the mental library to be withdrawn again at a later date. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge, used only to find more knowledge. There is no integration.
This is where the distinction is to be made. Knowledge is only useful to the practicing magician as a gate to understanding. I often define understanding as integrated knowledge, and this step only comes about as a result of UTILIZING the usable data. Taking steps to implement the knowledge gained in order to understand. Once something begins to be understood, it becomes a part of you. The experience of the application of knowledges is something which cannot be shed later, it stays with you, and influences later actions. Your learning has become realization, truly integrating it into yourself. The more you apply the knowledge, the more you understand it, the more it melds with your essence. This is why you can tell a Magician from an Armchair Esotericist frequently by feeling alone.
I have a theory that with understanding, you grow as a consciousness. When I differentiate different conscious beings, be they human or deity, I tend to describe them in terms of size and gravity. She is “Big”. Aphrodite is “Massive”. That frat boy over there yelling random drunken slurs is “Tiny”. It is a differentiation of levels of understanding. A friend of mine likes to think of consciousness as a universal force, similar to gravity. As the consciousness grows, the force becomes more powerful, it affects more simply through its existence. I like this idea, and have come to adapt it to my own worldview.
Now then, the final point which I think must be addressed is the concept of Wisdom. This is one I don’t have a very firm grasp on, and therefore take anything past this with a few grains of salt. That said, I think wisdom is something which emerges naturally from understanding. As you understand more pieces of the puzzle, more connections are drawn and a bigger picture begins to emerge. Wisdom is implemented understanding as I currently see it. It is understanding the consequences of your actions, and altering actions accordingly. Wisdom it seems is the ability to know that it is time to ask for help, or that saying x to y entity is asking for trouble, or that that person over there who is begging for anyone to alleviate their pain is going through a transformative period, and what they need more than a hand to walk them through it is some reassuring that it will be okay, or that in a similar circumstance the person needs all the help they can get. All of this along with acting on that understanding. Why? Because this is how the pieces fit together. Time and age alone does not make one wise, as anyone who has ever met a racist and bigoted 70 year old has learned. However, age allows us to learn more, gives us time to implement that knowledge, and therefore draw more connections. This is why there are wise youngsters, but if you ever have the good fortune to actually meet a wise old person, they can astound you and direct your path incredibly effectively.
So learn, learn all you can, but take time to implement the knowledge. Understand all you can, and in this shall you love life and the universe, for love is the act of understanding. In this will you be wise, and grow in wisdom. Grow! Do not simply accumulate facts. Aspire to great understanding, and in such great wisdom. In the end you will be more powerful than you can possibly know now.
