“…Okay, do go on.” Owen leans back in his chair and motions for her to continue with her statement. “Given what you know about me, you must be an expert on my life and my choices up to this point. Go on, explain how I have ‘questionable judgement’.”
She recognizes her flaw too belatedly -- wears the lines of her face flat, stares downwards, unmoving, unspeaking, still as though she had been caught committing some serious felony. She wants to amend that she meant only in this area, but felt, again, any explanation she could offer would be paper thin -- and hardly sincere. “I offer apologies, sir. I spoke rashly.”
