Deux soeurs / Zwei Schwestern / Available at www.draw-down.com / A compilation of images from Lomé, the capital of Togo, West Africa, which photographer #TobiasNeumann visited on a regular basis from 2009 to 2017. Two young women—sisters—are the starting point for this volume, which records their family environment (parents, siblings) before exploring Lomé. Their gaze directs Neumann's lens through the city, which bears the imprint of its colonial past and neo-colonial present. Through the two young women, whom he repeatedly photographs on the streets of the Lomé, Neumann is introduced to other young people. His laconic shots convey the everyday globalized reality that persists in one of the world's poorest countries, recording how the sisters personally assert and navigate their world, and documents their efforts to either build a future in Togo or leave the country.
