Ireland, ya beaut. We did it.
Yesterday in Ireland, a controversial "Repeal the Eight Amendment" referendum took place. This amendment to the Irish constitution equated the value of the life of mother and fetus and limited abortion to situations where mother's life is in immediate danger (although, as the practice has shown, particularly in the case of Savita Halappanavar, this law was often dead). The Eighth Amendment was adopted 35 years ago by a referendum, in which it was supported by 66.9% of votes. Yesterday, also in a referendum, by an almost identical margin (66.3% for yes) it was repealed. Only the people of Donegal, by a small majority, rejected the proposed repealing. In the rest of the constitutencies, the supporters of the change won, with the highest support in Dublin Bay South (78.5%).

I am fucking disgusted at Tumblr @staff targeting my blog with offensive ads from ‘No’ campaigners in Ireland’s upcoming referendum. These ads violate Ireland’s electoral law against advertising from campaigners that accept foreign investment being targeted to sites in Ireland. And as such they violate Tumblr’s own laws against accepting advertising around political campaigns that violate the rules & regulations of the country concerned.
There is no option for me to get these disgustingly offensive ads off my dashboard. Tumblr’s “help” section provides a link to opt-out of ads. The link is ever-so-helpfully broken, and has been broken every single time I’ve checked it over the last year. There is no option for reporting Yahoo/Tumblr’s offensive advertising, so I just had to submit a request to @support
Facebook banned all campaign ads paid for by foreign funding from its Irish sites in the run up to Ireland’s referendum. They did it too late, but at least they did it. Yahoo/Tumblr haven’t fucking bothered.
