And that was episode 2!

It's actually kind of nice to see Luz have a bit of a rocky start with things. She may be a weird old fantasy nerd, but there's a world of difference between liking those stories and being ready to live in a world like this, and it makes a lot of sense that she's falling back on tropes she knows as a framework to understand the world she's found herself in.

Clearly this is not a show that's going to just play those fantasy tropes straight, as we've just seen, but it does feel like it's made with a lot of love towards them – it's deconstructing for the sake of recapturing the joy they made you feel, rather than just to call them stupid.

Eda is a really fascinating character – there's a hurt I'm sensing beneath all that well-polished world-weariness, and I'm interested to see it peek out more. Also, this makes two for two on putting herself into danger without hesitation to try to save this one dumb kid she can't help but be soft on, and "grumpy old miseryguts who would risk everything to help a kid out" is a character archetype I adore.

Also, I didn't mention it last episode, but I really love the super chill ending theme.
