Damn it's been a WHILE. But to be fair I also haven't cosplayed since 2019 (thanks lockdown/work/other events/hobbies clashing)

But! @coffeegranate is tabling at Sunnycon this year so I wanted to go along and support a friend, and bring something slightly new costumewise

The last time I went to Sunnycon, I cosplayed a slightly half-assed jester from critical role, as I was still living with my partner's family and did not have the space to go into a sewing fugue.

I did upgrade it during lockdown, which I think? I posted here, but I'm not sure how much of it will fit anymore due to weight gain :(

A LOT has changed since then, not least of which is having my own sewing room, but I'm sticking with Jester - though this time attempting her level 10 outfit. I've literally wanted to do this since the art first dropped, and have had my 'jester boots' since I think the December 2018 sales XD

I decided against the coat, as a combination of prohibitive costs and time, and in hindsight I'm glad I did, as I've had the fabric for the rest of it since the beginning of May and I only started doing stuff on Saturday. ("That will be plenty of time!" I said, like a liar).

It's also been 20°C plus here all week so if that holds I don't really want to add a quilted garment to the mix

Admittedly, things like work, side gigs and historical costuming got in the way/took priority, but hyperfocus mode finally got engaged on Saturday and I've been working on dyeing fabric/drafting patterns up until today. The looming deadline of the con being a week away also finally kicked me into action 🙃

This was about 4 hours of work, an hour of which I would say was hand sewing the drawstring channel for the neck. The skirt needs some slight altering and adjustments, so I'm leaving that til tomorrow, but I have the next 2 days off of work, so I'm hopeful that I'll have at the very least layers 1 and 2 finished over the next 2 days, or at least wearable, then working on layer 3 and accessories Sunday - Thursday

Hey, sad to hear you're stepping back from the fandom but I 100% get it I did have couple of questions I was wondering if you could answer :)? Firstly, is it weird that Wei Wuxian doesnt take the Jiang surname on his adoption? Would Yu Ziyuan be a part of the reason why not? Secondly, if WWX was a girl (have been thinking about writing a Wangxian lesbians fic) would she still be likely to have Wuxian as her courtesy name? And how much would that affect her place in the Jiang sect do you think?

Hey! They didn’t adopt him. He was just a ward. It’s not unusual that adopted children don’t change their names either. No it has nothing to do with Yu Ziyuan, like I’m sure she wouldn’t have allowed it, but like no. Changing your last name is significant, and you don’t do it easily. It’s highly disrespectful to Wei Changze. Unless he or his father WCZ was a terrible criminal or something or unless WWX himself was stripped of his free man status and sold into slavery, he wouldn’t change his last name. 

I mean the name is kind of masculine but he can still be Wei Wuxian if he was a girl. 

Erm, it wouldn’t affect her status at all I don’t think if everything else is the still the same aka she’s still the head disciple. Actually Yu Ziyuan might like her a lot more if Wei Wuxian is a girl. No competition with Jiang Cheng, no threat at all.

1. How do they feel about people shorter/taller than them? I don’t think he has any actual feelings or opinions on this in general, but if he hates someone and finds out that the other is sensitive about this, he WILL use it against them.

Also he enjoys that Xie Lian fits so nicely in his arms.

17. What’s something they like that may be surprising to others? I think there being a Heaven Official whose guts he DOESN’T hate was the biggest surprise to everyone. :)

You're right about the UK that sauce might be on the table in a cafe/restaurant, but not at home where it's just salt and pepper.

I mean. Maybe if someone was a huge enthusiast. Maybe. But I don’t think I ever saw the stuff during the year I lived in the UK, except among the caddies of unfamiliar condiments on the tables in pubs.

Oh there’s all kinds of crap and detritus that live on my table, I won’t lie.

awisekraken In our apartment it would usually be an empty teapot from that morning. :) Husband hates Tabasco, probably because of MREs, and much prefers Cholula now. It's a little difficult to find outside of SoCal, but possible.

You can get Cholula in NY State! I first encountered it when I was at university in Rochester, on the tables in bars, actually! but now it’s in grocery stores, but just the big ones. I think it’s okay but not really different from tabasco? A little lighter maybe, less sour.

On the farm there often is a thermos of coffee sitting on the table all day. They don’t have a coffee pot! My sister is the type of person who hand-grinds the beans in a little hand-grinder, and makes the coffee in a French press and then pours it into a thermos to stay hot all day, which is quaint but labor-intensive. It was a big innovation for her to start buying pre-ground coffee for the slaughter day crews instead of hand-grinding half a pound of coffee on the night before chicken processing days. (There’s an industrial two-pot Bunn-O-Matic out in the barn that I salvaged from work, because I’m not making fifteen fucking French Press pots of coffee at six in the morning while they’re loading chickens into crates.)

At home, ketchup and bbq sauce, but if mayonnaise is an option I will put that on my chips especially garlic mayo. My dad uses salad cream or French mustard vinaigrette stuff cause he’s a weirdo. Brown sauce only tends to be used in bacon/sausage butties but I know a guy who puts it on chips and got Judged for it by half the table. Salt and pepper are usually fairly standard and then vinegar for fish and chips. Although my boyfriend put vinegar and salt on chicken nuggets the other day and I was low key disgusted. (By chips I mean fries of course) 

(this was tagged northern England formerly Yorkshire! that is my favorite accent by the way! at my ex-girlfriend’s wedding I was sat across from a lovely woman whose father was from Yorkshire and she did great impressions of him the whole evening. His advice for her before her first job interview was, for some reason, “Doon’t meention gays!”, and in her impersonation the word “gays” was about fifteen seconds long and the vowel was kind of a weird narrow e sound, it was hilarious. I guess he was worried that her liberal viewpoints would not get her hired.)

And I had someone privately message me, but wanting to leave it anonymous, that their preferred condiment was something Bulgarian that’s called Sharena Sol (Colorful Salt) that sounds fucking amazing. (Guess the Bulgarian community online is small, so it’d be pretty personally-identifiable to discuss it with name attached. I am astonished and enchanted by the concept of getting doxxed by cuisine.) But it sounds like the stuff’s not widely available, which is a shame because it sound fucking awesome. 

I dunno, I just wanted a conversation about something fascinating, and this has done the trick. Thanks for playing, y’all, and I’d love to hear more if anyone else wants to chime in with what condiments live on their table in their part of the world.

Level 10 Jester Cosplay (Day 5)

I didn't do a formal post yesterday cause I was starting to get a bit dispirited and frustrated with how long it was taking, but ahhh! The two base layers are now at a wearable point!!!

It looks a little odd in this photo because I haven't finished the waistband yet, but I'm planning on handsewing that on, as it's not done yet.

In hindsight, the straps probably should have been altered to be brought in slightly, as they have the tendency to slip off the shoulders, but I'm planning on pinning them to whatever my underlayer ends up being.

I'm currently erring on not trying to make the overskirt, or at the very least leaving it until after I've made the bag and possibly the gloves, because the outfit is honestly really cute without it.

Plus I'd rather have a bag than another layer XD.

I'm a little nervous about making the gloves but cautiously optimistic about the bag.
