Roland grabbin the dog and Roland grabbin Tom
I hear your eyes and I see those cries
📌I was listening to 'Oh Klahoma' (by Jack Stauber) and I couldn't help but imagine these two...🥹 So I made this mini edit •°•
Probably one of the saddest couples among all my ships 💔👄💔
Tom Purcell & Roland West
The longing between them is its own character
(I don't think I've posted it anywhere before now)

I can’t be in that house, man. Every inch of that place is them kids. I can’t be there. I can’t sleep there. I just wanna die... all the time. Scoot McNairy as Tom Purcell in True Detective S3 (2019)
i think the only thing that’s keeping season 3 of True Detective being my favorite is Tom’s senseless death. the fact that he died alone and confused and believing one of his only friends didn’t believe him no more. that he lived in a loveless marriage and felt like he had to hide himself. that he died never knowing what really happened to his daughter and son.
otherwise i think season 1 and 3 act as terrific foils, both as stories and to show how media has changed how we depict women and violence and sex and characters in general on TV. they’re both terrific in their own right with very poignant endings. it’s just Tom’s death (and how it affected Roland too) that hit too close to home and hurt too much for me to forgive the season (though i still loved it and the main story they were telling)
You didn't have to check on me, Lieutenant West. You've done more for me than just about anybody.
