Song Review: Tommy Emmanuel - “Drivetime”
It’s stream time for “Drivetime.”
Tommy Emmanuel’s cascading instrumental makes the move from the physical to the digital world with its Spotify debut. The occasion is its release - following “Fuel” - as the second single from Best of TommySongs. The career retrospective, which also includes five fresh compositions, pulls into stores May 8.
Though it’s not new, “Drivetime,” inspired by Emmanuel and his daughter Amanda’s lazy drives home from school, is still revelatory as he makes his single guitar sound like three and makes it sound easy to do. The calm satisfaction of father-daughter time Emmanuel must have felt on these journeys oozes through the music and leaves the listener feeling the same.
