Throwback to a year ago when this was posted days before the tony awards. I remember watching it in my living room and my brother started singing along with them, I admit i felt like a proud older sibling in that moment. Every time I watch this it gives me chills.

WHEN TRYING TO PROMOTE A MUSICAL DON'T OUTRIGHT INSULT ANOTHER !!!

I just read a post trying to prove the point that The Great Comet wasn’t copying Hamilton - a fact I agree with. However, they massively brought down Hamilton whilst making their comparisons!! Hamilton is such an outstanding and revolutionary musical, there’s a reason it won 11 tony awards last year, however The Great Comet is equally an outstanding and revolutionary musical who unfortunately only received 2 tony awards (which tbf is an amazing achievement, as someone who hopes to be in musical theatre one day I can only dream of even being a part of a production that will be nominated for an award like the tonys or the Olivier’s for the west end!) Now talking about the tonys brings me onto another scenario, I haven’t been on tumblr very long but I have seen too much hate on dear Evan Hansen for my liking !! I have never seen dear Evan Hansen but I have read the synopsis and listened to the obc loads of times and tbh I love the music, its traditional contemporary musical theatre which is lovely and comforting to hear. Some of the harmonies are absolutely outstanding and a story about a teenager with social anxiety is so relevant in today’s society- I personally don’t have anxiety but a few of my close friends have been diagnosed and it needs to be shown how anxiety can drive you to do or not to do things and how you react to that. Again, there must be a reason it won so many tonys this year!! - - Now, I do believe that Dave Molloy should’ve won the award for best score but I am going to explain my opinion in a way that is still respectable to the composers and lyricists of Dear Evan Hansen!! As I've said, I love this music in Dear Evan Hansen, however I believe the Best Score should be given to the score that has the most complexity, meaning, intelligent use of instrumentation and something that makes the music different and stand out- for me The Great Comet has such a variety of genres and so many complexities and intricacies that can be heard, this is why I would've given the award to Dave Molloy if I had the choice, however I can understand and can see that whoever chooses the winners choose Dear Evan Hansen as some of the choral phrases sound incredible and just make me wanna get onstage and perform!! Moral of the story: don't claim to be a lover of a musical by hating on another :)
