If you're still taking these, i assume Percabeth is your otp.
well it's actually Frazel but yes they are one of my OTP's
I know you've probably talked about this before, but what are your general thoughts on Mako? I just wonder because I know he gets a lot of hate in this fandom, but you seem to like him. I do too, don't get me wrong, but I was wondering what you think of him. :)
actually i’m pretty sure that no one’s ever really asked me about mako, so that’d make you the first, congrats
but yeah i love mako!! i love the fact that he’s an emotionally constipated teenager who isn’t good with relationships, romantic or not, and i love that he fucked up and made mistakes because that’s what makes him human, that’s what makes him more relatable to me (in that respect he reminds me a lot of ron weasley, but in the same way, his mistakes, losing control of his emotions, are what make me love him so much). i just don’t understand why so much of the fandom decided to villainize him for being….. normal, especially after woobifying real assholes like amon and tarrlok. like, i’d way rather he had done all this messed up shit with the whole korra and asami situation and learned from it (which he did) than handle the whole thing flawlessly, because the other way’s so much more realistic.
like honestly? i liked the love triangle. could the time it took up have been better spent on other things, like giving asami and bolin a little more depth? definitely! was mako in the wrong by keeping the kiss from asami, and by dating her when he had feelings for korra? of course. but the whole thing made sense. love isn’t always clean and simple, it’s messy and it’s confusing and it hurts sometimes, and it’s really easy to fuck up, especially when you’re like mako and haven’t had the chance to even let yourself really love a girl since….. your whole life, basically. i would’ve been surprised and disappointed if he hadn’t fucked up, tbh, because it’s good to know that it isn’t always so perfect, sometimes you do have to scramble to fix things, and even if you hurt some people along the way it isn’t impossible to repair, everything can still turn out ok in the end.
i don’t even think his emotional constipation is a flaw, exactly - more of a growing point that’s going to help him develop as a character in the future. he’s already opened up to both korra and asami, and it’s just something else that he’s gonna have to work on. honestly his positive traits outweigh his negative ones - he’s fiercely protective of the people he loves, extremely loyal, relatively levelheaded, reliable and trustworthy (as long as you’re on his good side) - i could go on. i just don’t see a real reason to dislike him as a person or as a character, because not only is he interesting, he’s very real and besides korra, he’s pretty much the only character who has any depth whatsoever sorry but it’s true. sure, he’s got a long way to go in terms of development, but he doesn’t need a redemption arc like zuko. breaking a girl’s heart isn’t on the same level as trying to kill someone who’s trying to stop a war that’ll destroy the world. heartbreak is a part of life, and again, it’s what makes him human, and i’m looking forward to seeing more of that in the future.
