Acorn Tapes x Dirty Tapes Showcase 05/13/17

The fate of our two labels has been closely intertwined, and the connections go way back to late 2000’s MySpace network and have carried through, bridging the gaps of the New York beat scene, the UK, and the rest of the world via the internet. Much of our core artist-base and music connections have been shared and carefully cultivated, one cassette release at a time. For the first time this link will be physically manifested, bringing together two worlds which have shared a spirit and ethos of raw underground production.

Hann_11 - NYC / Philly native Hannibal has recently dropped his split tape with LoVibe on Dirty Tapes - (who also has a tape out wtih Acorn). Hann’s is a classic example of golden era hip-hop instrumentals meets new school production. Working closely with MC’s and friends in the music community he is a humble legend. TOP$ - Long Island resident TOP$ has dropped classic projects on both labels. A veteran in his own right, he is a SP 404 purist, maintaining one of most original, raw styles with signature bloops and his natural swing. Dude is highly slept on and fucking brilliant! LAMPGOD - Back from a self-imposed haiatus, LAMPGOD aka Bryant Canelo is a staple member and one of the most elusive artists on the Dirty Tapes roster. His repertuar includes avant-gaurde rap, collage-style compositions, noise, and deconstructed hip hop. Almost a Dean Blunt type figure - but without the art school training. Legendary dude that you have to see live, shit is wild -trust! The Nativist - A young emerging talent that has been a pleasure to watch blooming into a multi-faceted producer. With influences ranging from classic UK - Junglist / Bass Music to New York Club Riddim Trax, this guy blows sound systems away. One of the most energy-packed live performances - this dude channels classic era Lee Scratch Perry and Tubby in their hayday. TOMCAT - UK resident and the founder of Acorn Tapes, Tomcat has been making jazz-laced hip hop instrumentals and curating one of the best underground labels around. It is a great pleasure to finally have him in New York City, and as a rare treat he will be blessing us with an original DJ set. Delofi & Uplift - The original founders of the Dirty Tapes collective, both of these multi-faceted artists have been contributing to the New York experimental music scene for years. With their hands in music, photography and VHS visuals, they have set the aesthetic of the legendary label and have given light to many emerging talents in the underground community. Expect some original sounds and proper VHS visulas all night long. Along with these acts we will have some special guests in the house who may pop in and out for a quick set. You never know who may show face at these events so its better to leave shit unscripted and see where the night takes us.
