Cabot Cliffs, Nova Scotia

I played Cabot Cliffs during my stay at Cape Breton where I also played Cabot Links. See my experience on Cabot Links here. Cabot Cliffs is the newest addition to Cape Breton and I was looking forward to playing the course. It has quickly risen the World Top 100 golf courses and the views look spectacular.

NEW ACCOMMODATION

On the drive down towards the parking area and driving range they are building some new houses and accommodation on the left hand side.There is also houses along side the 11th hole and you can see that they are developing the area to accommodate more visitors and investments. 

HOLE 1

The first hole is 508m par 5 with bunkers protecting the left hand side of the fairway. When you reach the green you get some great views of the ocean. I started with a hassle free par. 

HOLE 2

The second hole is an amazing par 4 measuring 333 meters. This is my favorite hole on the course and really well designed. You stand on an elevated tee and the view is stunning. The hole looks easy on the scorecard, but it can surely challenge you along the way. I hit an iron from the tee in the fairway and that leaves you with an uphill approach shot to a well protected green with run off area in front that can end up with a ball in the penalty area. I was on the green in 2, but I putted for a bogey. 

HOLE 3

The third hole is another beautiful par 4 measuring 325 meters. The green sits elevated and you have an uphill approach shot. I hit my tee shot into the left hand bunker and did not get on the green from there. Another bogey on the scorecard.

HOLE 4

Cabot cliffs 4th hole is a par 3. I misjudged the wind a came up way short. However I managed to get up and down with a great chip. The view from the green is incredible and another nicely designed golf hole.

HOLE 5

The 5th hole is 329m par 4 with where you have a blind tee shot to the fairway and you can see the green in the distance. You either go right with an iron towards the fairway which leaves a short approach shot or you can try and carry over the penalty area on the left hand side. It was downwind so I opted for the driver towards the green and hit a superb drive that ended up just short of the green. I did not manage to convert the good tee shot, but still a good par.

Cabot Links, Nova Scotia

Cabot links  is located in Nova Scotia, Canada. A remote golf destination that has quickly become a part of the best courses in the world. I stayed at the resort and all the rooms are facing the ocean with views of the golf course. Cabot Links was the first course created and I also played the newer course Cabot Cliffs during my visit. PAR 706.267 METERSCOURSE ARCHITECTROD WHITMAN

Hole 1

The first hole is a straight forward par 5 measuring 471 meters from the silver tees. I hit my driver into the right hand rough and got a bad lie. I hit a 8 iron to get out of the rough and left myself with a 7 iron to the green. I missed the green long and made bogey.  

HOLE 2

The second hole is a good par 3 measuring just over 200 meters. There is a bunker and run off area on the right hand side of green which is where I hit my tee shot. This is the wrong place to miss the green and leaves a difficult chip shot to try and safe par. My chip shot was good but I missed the par saving putt. 

HOLE 3

The third hole is a great par 4 measuring 265 meters. It is a reachable par and I enjoy risk reward par 4s like these. The right hand side of the hole is a penalty area so the tee shot needs to carry almost to the green. It was downwind so it was too tempting not to try and go for the hero shot. I hit a poor tee shot into the penalty area and had to take a drop. Hit a very good approach shot with a wedge but missed the par putt.

HOLE 4

Cabot Links hole 4 is a tough par 4 measuring 370 meters.  It is uphill and the longest par 4 on the front nine.  I hit my tee shot into the right hand bunker and was too close to the edge of the bunker which made my decision to lay up easy. My approach shot ended up at the back of the green and  I managed to hole the putt for par. 

HOLE 5, par 3 on Cabot Links

Hole 5 is a par 3 and is 154m. It was playing a least 1 club longer with the wind and there is not much room to miss the green.  I hit a 5 iron left of the green where there is more space than it looks from the tee. My chip was poor and I made bogey. 

HOLE 6

The 6th hole is a dogleg right to left par 4, 397 meters long. It was down wind and the green was reachable with a good drive. I had to try and go for it like hole 3. My drive was good and ended up close the green in the right hand rough. The pin was placed just over a mount which makes for a challenging chip from where I was. My first chip came up just short but I almost holed the second time around. A good hole and a good par.

HOLE 9

The 9th hole is a short par 4 measuring 293 meter There are some well placed bunkers in the fairway and on the right hand side. My drive was good and in the middle of the fairway. My approach shot was short on the left hand side where there is a run off area. I was too cute with my chip shots and the ball rolled back down the slope. A really poor double bogey to finish off the front nine.

HOLE 10

The 10th is a par 4 with a blind tee shot. It is only 297m over a hill, but the Caddie did not recommend trying to go for green. I listened and played a 6 iron in the fairway. Messed up my approach shot and made a bogey.
