Movin’ on Up.
For the past three years, I’ve been doing the New York grind. Trying to figure out what allured me to the city in the first place. I was born across the river staring at the city for just less than a year before we moved to Florida. I was inundated with media from a young age and started drawing young as well. In the early 90′s New York was everything in Florida. Everything was modeled after it and soon I became that way as well.
In High School, I ran away from art until senior year where it really started to sink in that I could be doing something with art, design, and video. At 16 years old, I was designing advertisements for a women’s shoe store; making full-length skateboarding videos with my friends, and drawing characters inspired by Japanese role-playing video games.
Even so, it wasn’t until college where I realized what I could do, I began freelancing in my spare time. For the past 10 years, I have devoted myself to improving my “new” art; trying to test everything out and forge my own style.
For the past three years, I have been in living in Brooklyn and working in apartments, restaurants, supermarkets, and in branding firms. In all this time, I have become quite versed in the Adobe Creative Suite and much more confident in my ability to succeed and evolve in this brave new world. I currently work as Creative Director of MYN North America, a branding firm in Union Square, Manhattan; and as Creative Director of North Side LLC., a expanding restaurant group based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I have used Elance and Upwork for the last couple years to great success in my spare time. I recently came across Toptal, a top tier design outsourcing website. It looks to be the next step up. I just applied and am looking forward to where my skills can be taken when met with the grandiose ideas and capability of Toptal Freelance Visual Designers Network.
Cheers to the future.
