French Pine Torchieres

Looking for unique floor lamps? We introduce you to Torchieres! These are one of the most popular of the floor lamp types. These are tall floor lamps that feature a bowl-shaped top that directs the light upwards. Although these are similar to a floor lamp in terms of shape, their silhouette is usually on the thicker side. But their function is different from your standard floor lamps. While a regular floor lamp is great for task lighting, a torchiere provides a beautiful accent lighting function apart from being used for general lighting too. Torchieres can stunningly illuminate the place with the light shining up against the wall right up to the ceiling.

Torchieres are believed to have evolved from the candelabras. These were first introduced in France around the end of the 17th century.

At Twig Ltd, we have an impressive pair of 19th century pine Torchieres. This enchanting pair beautifully features bold carvings of dragons around the triangular base. It is decorated with carved acanthus leaves, scrolled foliage angel masks, and flowers up to the top. A stunning Corinthian style capitol sits at the top with dolphin heads and more acanthus leaves. This pair also has a faux candle top which could be electrified or removed for an urn to be placed on top.
