Despite whatever conflicts may exist with different orgs, our mission is liberation and our praxis is to center impacted people and we always share action alerts demanding an end to detention. However, we would like to clarify that SANTOS en Virginia had no role in this mobilization. And that’s okay, you know, EVERYONE should be working to get people free. The issue here is that the organizers behind it know our work, they know we have NEVER lost a community member to an ICE detainer. Phone zaps aren’t effective tactics for rapid response. We get people free by physically showing up with the media and getting electeds to call the decision-makers - in those case the jail board. Yeah we know nobody wants to go to a sit in at a jail in covid times. The question is: are your actions to check off your “good ally” box or to actually get people free?
