but to be honest, i don’t really know what love is supposed to be. some say you fight for the ones you love, but they also say love should come easy. they say if you love them set them free, but also if you find the one, you have to hold onto them. they say you need to love yourself first before you can love someone else, but they also say true love is unconditional. some say it’s supposed to be turbulent but others say it feels calm, like coming home. some say love hurts. some say love heals. some say love isn’t worth it. some say that’s just because you haven’t met the right one.
so truthfully, i don’t know what it’s supposed to feel like. all i know is how i feel around you. all i know is how i feel everything all at once, how you are both my lighthouse and my storm, both my beginning and my end. and maybe that’s not the right way to love, maybe it isn’t how i’m supposed to. because you know i don’t know how to do anything like i’m supposed to. but i hope this is enough for you.
- it’s enough for me.
Her mother, too. (K.P.K)
The violence sits in my heart. I hear it banging its fist against my closed chest; I whisper sweet nothings right back. It won't hurt this much soon, I say. It won't be this painful forever, I sigh. I fear I am the dam attempting to negotiate with the flood. I am no more than a pebble in its path. I cannot fight back; I will turn to sea glass beneath its fingers. The violence sits somewhere inside of me, begging for me to make use of it. Be angry, it screams. Be angry that you are hurting, regardless if you dragged yourself to the doctor. Be angry for your pain, despite the stitches holding yourself together. Be angry that your heart beats you. Be angry that you're trying to beat your heart.

i’m doing a month long exploration into my poetry (this is the 5th instalment, i’ll be uploading them out of order) - thankful.
You say I am as beautiful as a flower. Please God let me be just as thorny. Let me prick those who try to grasp me. Let me draw blood before I leave my roots behind. Let me belong to no wilted bouquet.
STRENGTH BEFORE ANYTHING (k.p.k)
Like a breath of fresh air, I have constantly exhaled myself from my lungs. I think I like to pretend I am reborn into who I am meant to be. The truth is that I reinvent myself so often I have never given myself the chance. Every conversation is an opportunity to slip into a skin that is not mine yet fits just as uncomfortably as my own. I tell myself it takes time. But you can tell yourself that same thing every single day because it never won't be true. I am sure there must come a day when I can no longer shapeshift. But until then, I am likeable, and I am needed, and I am here.
