Today's henchman of the day is Tox Box from Super Mario 64!
And finally, presenting her royal boxicity, Princess Toxette (AKA Princess Tox Box according to the comic I made before I decided to give them all “Ette” names.)
That’s the last installment of of my 9-part series of Super-Crown princesses, thanks for watching! I’ll probably put up a megapost with all the fair ladies in one place pretty soon, plus maybe an image with my original pencil sketches?
The royal retinue:
Kuribo’s Shoe
Pidgit
Heave-Ho
Banzai Bill
Blooper Nanny
Pile Driver Micro-Goomba
Boss Bass
Eyerok
Tox Box characters
I wonder why Xehanort didn't turn into a toy in this world?

Name: Tox Box
Debut: Super Mario 64
Do you know how good an enemy Tox Box is? An extremely good one. As I mentioned in my Swaphopper post a while back, enemies are at their best when their game mechanic is immediately recognizable, and when you see a Tox Box rolling around, with one side exposed, you immediately know what to do! Heck, Tox Box is actually one of Miyamoto’s favorite Mario enemies for this exact reason, considering it to be a “masterpiece” of game design, and, I can’t say I disagree!
Tox Box first appeared in Super Mario 64 in Shifting Sand Land, where a couple roll around on a small path, trying to flatten Mario. If you land under one of their many expressive faces, then that is precisely what will happen, but if you fall in the middle, which has a bunch of “don’t” symbols spray painted, you’ll be completely safe! Tox Box is truly an enemy introduced for a 3D environment, and a great way to 💪 flex 💪 that newfangled Z-axis! Woooo!
Tox Box returns in Super Mario Galaxy with a new design... or does it? While in the English version, both these enemies are called “Tox Box,” the Japanese version makes a distinction between “Onimasukun” in 64, and “Onimasudon” in Galaxy! The new version has a very different look, being carved from stone, rather than spray-painted onto metal, placing it squarely in the Thwomp family, but otherwise, it’s more-or-less the same thing! Land inside the hole, and you’ll be safe! Of course, you can have a little fun with the Tox Boxes in the Beach Bowl Galaxy, which move slow enough to make this possible. Just hop inside its mouth, and take a brief ride around! It accomplishes nothing, but is loads of fun, and something I have done more than a couple times.
The ones in the Stone Cyclone Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2 are unfortunately, far too fast to ever make this feasible, and aside from that, they also appear in Mario Party: Island Tour. What’s with all these weird Thwomps appearing in Mario Party games anyhow?
Whether Tox Box is carved from stone or painted onto metal, I think that we can all agree that Tox Box is an excellent example of game design, and more importantly, a friend.
Just don’t get on his bad side! All five of them! It’s not very healthy for Mario.

So, I bought the Tox Box (not used) because it was apparently the only way to get the uncut, 102-minute version of The Toxic Avenger Part II, but the version I have is includes the cut 96-version. This is a lot less exciting.
