David Bowie Socks
I really like cheap socks. Here’s why. The Downtown Los Angeles Toy District is a weird place. It should be called the Toy and Bong district because that’s really what it sells most, but they sell so much stuff in the Toy District from bongs and cheap plastic guns to all the baby Jesus paraphernalia and specifically for this story, socks. I got a three pack of socks there for $1 once. They wore out in about a year.
In January, 2016 there were a lot of stories of David Bowie being told due to his passing. I listened to one on NPR where a guitarist he worked with mentioned that in New York, David Bowie would go down from rehearsal and get cheap black socks. The kind you could get 10 for $1. In the Toy District, they sell you a dozen for $5. I always get those cheap black socks now because if it was good enough for David Bowie, it’s good enough for me. This is how I feel closer to David Bowie.
