not me thinking i'm funny by having both prompt number fives start off with them talking about light bulbs

"Did your light bulbs blow out here too?" Tommy asked, grinning at Buck when he opened the apartment door. "Oh, fuck you," Buck said, laughing. "It's called ambience." "I like it," Tommy said, looking around the apartment. There were candles on the table, the counters, and the bookshelves that could be seen from the kitchen. Buck had spent a little too long organizing them so they weren't too close together or too hard to see — having a retired firefighter for a brother-in-law really reinforced the whole fire safety thing.

"As long as none of them get knocked over, anyway," Tommy added, and wow, sometimes Buck forgot that was how Chimney and Tommy had met until they reacted the same way to something. "They won't," Buck reassured him. "I don't want dinner to get interrupted by a group of very attractive firefighters." "I mean, you say that but then you call firefighters attractive, so…" "Yeah, you know, I found this calendar last month? It's. You might call it vintage?" Buck arched an eyebrow at Tommy. "The firefighter on the August spread is pretty hunky, if you ask me." Buck was a probably a little too delighted by the way Tommy's cheeks flushed to be a good person, but it was worth it. "Where did you even find that?" Tommy wondered. "Who even keeps old firefighter calendars?" "Oh come on, they're publicly acceptable pin ups. Lots of people keep them." Buck winked. "I found someone who kept ten copies. They were willing to part with two of them. I think I'll frame one." "One? What—" Tommy stopped himself. "Never mind." "I mean if you don't want it, I'm sure I can find something to do with it," Buck continued, spinning on his heel and heading for the kitchen. "All right, I thought since it was a last minute thing that I'd keep it simple and make enough so that you had something you could take on the road with you." "You didn't have to do that," Tommy protested. "Obviously not," Buck scoffed. "But I did it anyway because I wanted to. So I guess you have to take it now, huh?" "I'd hate to insult the chef," Tommy conceded, and Buck caught a little sparkle in his eye. "I also finally managed to get Athena to give up her cornbread recipe," Buck said proudly. "So there's an extra loaf for you." "How did you manage that? I thought she swore that she'd take that recipe to the grave." "I might have promised her that I'd keep you out of her holding cells for a few months," Buck conceded, looking over his shoulder at Tommy. "So don't make a liar out of me, or she'll find a way to make sure I can't remember it."

Hi! So I’ve been getting a lot of Tracker hero AU asks, so, I decided to flesh it out a bit more

So basically, in a world where you need to have a quirk to be a hero, it can be very difficult for those who are quirkless

In this culture of “quirk vs quirkless,” a new type of hero was born

The Tracker Hero

It all began with two infamous hackers, who went by Dansei and Tsuiseki, who hacked into a large human tracking ring and reported their every move to the police

After that, Tracker Heros became more and more prevalent

It was assumed that Dansei and Tsuiseki had some sort of computer related quirk, until it came out that both of them were quirkless

Suddenly, quirkless people had a new career option

New courses quickly opened up in hero schools across the country

One of the best of which was held at UA Hero Academy

Classes X, Y, and Z, (Z being the top class) was quickly enrolling students, and tracking was suddenly a very viable career for those so inclined

While tracker heros were not as popular as quirk heros, and didn’t make nearly as much money, you could still make a good living

Most tracker heros work in one of two places:

A hero agency, where they work along side pro heros, and are normally paid more than side kicks

Or a tracker agency, where “nonessential work” is outsourced. Trackers in these agencies also are free to work with police

Many pros are very close to their trackers, some even living in the guest room of the pros so that updates come as soon as possible

People are often trackers until they either die, quit, retire, or until they no longer are able to use up to date technology

Alrighty!! Thats that! Just wanted to flesh this AU out more

fluffebruary day 12: a day at the beach

(honestly i am so behind on these but i do have ideas and things written and i will be finishing them! for today, more tracker au for the anniversay of buck and tommy's first kiss and @bucktommyfluffebruary )

"So this is where you learned how to surf," Evan said, stretching out on the blanket he'd spread across the sand. "Should have realised what an East Coast guy you were."

Tommy snorted a laugh, reaching out and poking Evan's knee. "I appreciate that you refrained from saying—"

"I've heard it's as hated around here as saying Frisco."

"It's pretty close."

"So, Abby," Evan pushed his sunglasses up, looking over at Tommy curiously. "Was that actually a thing?"

"How much of a thing can it be when you're a closeted junior in high school?" Tommy asked, shrugging one shoulder. He was tempted to leave it there; as much as Evan liked to know everything, he also knew when not to pry. It would be easy to stop there, which might have been why Tommy kept going. "There were a couple parties' worth of seven minutes in heaven," he conceded, looking out over the waves. "Pretty sure she knew back then and never said anything. We just… hung out. And I know, that means that different things depending on how juvenile your sense of humour is, but we went to a few movies and otherwise we just sort of. Got seen in public with each other."

"Aw, and you stayed in touch all this time?" Evan smiled. "That's really sweet."

"Yeah, she and her husband are pretty great. And you met her stepdaughter."

"I get it. She reminds me of this psych professor I met in law school."

Tommy eyed Evan curiously, raising an eyebrow.

"Hey, I wasn't a psych major, and she was extremely hot." Evan smirked, biting his bottom lip.

"Should I tell Sam to watch out for you?" Tommy asked dryly, his shoulders relaxing as Evan brushed by the whole thing without stopping to make fun of him.

"Only if he and Abby split up, because then…"

"Nice to know I'm the chopped liver in this imaginary scenario."

Evan burst out laughing, grabbing Tommy's ankle. "I'm kidding, Tommy."

"If I didn't think you were, I would have already pushed you into the ocean."

"We're like twenty feet away from the edge, how would you even get me over there?"

Tommy stared at him. "I would have carried you, obviously."

"There is no way you can carry me."

"I carried a wide receiver down a mountain once."

"Yeah, yeah, I think both of you were exaggerating."

"You want me to prove it to you?"

"In Maine, in May? Yeah, I think I'm good where I am. It might be warm on the beach but — Tommy!"

"I heard you say yeah," Tommy teased him, slinging Evan over his shoulder and jogging towards the edge of the water. "Deep breath."

"Tommy, don't you da—"

Tommy laughed, running in as far as he dared before tossing Evan into the water. Evan landed with a splash and came up spluttering, grabbing for Tommy.

"It's frigid! I swear to god I will leave you here on this beach without a towel."

"It's not that bad," Tommy promised, catching Evan's hand in his. "You should try it out here in—"

This time he was the one cut off as Evan tugged him under, the chill stealing the breath right out of him.

"Okay, maybe it is cold," Tommy conceded, surfacing. He floated on his back, watching Evan. "Luckily the trailer is heated."

"You just can't get this kind of water pressure in a trailer," Buck told Tommy, sticking his head out of the shower and watching him from behind the curtain. "My shower is fine," Tommy said dryly, spitting toothpaste into the sink and watching him in the mirror. "Right, but can it fit two people?" Buck waited a beat. "That's what I thought," he said brightly, winking at Tommy and ducking back under the spray. "It sure doesn't get this hot, either— holy shit," Buck wheezed, startling when Tommy pulled the curtain back. "Warn a guy, falling in the shower is not on my bucket list."

"I'm just testing your hypothesis," Tommy said, stepping into the shower with Buck. "I seem to remember we've managed to squeeze into the Airstream together a few times." "I'm going to argue that there needs to be enough room to move around in the shower for it to count as big enough for two," Buck retorted, crowding Tommy as he reached for the shampoo. "How much moving do you think is actually going to be happening?" Tommy dragged his gaze up and down Buck's body, making him shiver. He took the shampoo out of Buck's hand, twirling a finger. "Spin around, I got this." "Oh, am I getting pampered? Really?" Buck asked, blinking in disbelief. "I'm pretty sure I invited you in here to—" "We can do that after," Tommy laughed behind Buck, scratching his fingers against Buck's scalp. "Yeah, we better," Buck hummed, tipping his head back to rest against Tommy's shoulder. "Ah, so that's what you keep me around for," Tommy hummed. "That and the excellent rock climbing locations," Buck conceded, sighing. "Keep doing that, it feels really good." "Whatever you say," and Tommy's voice was so soft and fond that Buck had to lean up and kiss his jaw.

tommy kinard has had a lot of jobs in his life. army, firefighter, pilot, and then eight years ago he started working full time as a rewardist. are you looking for someone? for something? tommy can help. he likes the solitary life this new job allows him; travelling from town to town and living in an airstream.

his best friend chim and his wife maddie are tommy's support team. they find jobs, do research on the cases, liaise with contacts in town, and occasionally call the cops for tommy. the first time he needed a hand with some legal issues, maddie said she had it covered.

maddie's brother evan is — also part of the team. a lawyer who spent a few years travelling around the country, he has contacts all over and will help tommy out. for a price. he's still mad about that night last year where he and tommy hooked up and then tommy left for another job and ghosted him for a month, and evan holds it over tommy's head whenever possible.

karen is their tech guru. there isn't a code she can't crack or a program she can't write. tommy helped her out a few years ago and she's worked with him ever since, but she's not above offering surge prices if he needs her to work outside of normal hours. she's got a wife and kids to go home to.

tommy's past is — complicated. he sees his sister lucy every couple of years, but hasn't talked to his brother sal in almost twenty (it might have something to do with the fact that he's sure sal killed their father), and only sees their mother when she calls.

"Loser buys breakfast," Buck offered, walking backwards to keep his eyes on Tommy. "Thanks for breakfast, Evan," Tommy winked at him. "We haven't even started. I could absolutely win this time." "You could, but the last three times you've defended coming in last so that, and I quote, you could check out a hot guy's ass." "Your ass is spectacular," Buck conceded. "Probably because I actually go running when I say I'm going to." "Running is not superior to other forms of working out." "Is that what we're calling you watching me lift weights?" "Maybe what happens after you lift weights." Buck looked Tommy up and down slowly, grinning widely when he finally met Tommy's gaze. Tommy put his hand against Buck's cheek, gently pushing him away. "Right, two mile loop. Get the stopwatch ready." "It's not actually a watch anymore, it's just a phone app." Buck corrected him. "One, two, three, go." Tommy said, saluting Buck sarcastically. He dodged around Buck and took off. "Hey! That's cheating, you didn't wait!" Buck hollered, chasing after him.
