Oooo #12 for harringrove!!!
12. Sneaking away to a hidden corner to share a secretive kiss.
billy stares out the window adjacent to his desk, watching a lizard make its way slowly across the glass.
the quiz was easy. just a few questions about forces and torque, nothing too extravagant. physics isn’t a class billy worries too much about.
today, however, he catches sight of steve two rows over. he’s bent over his desk, his brow furrowed and his fist in a white-knuckle grip around his pencil. he looks like if he strains any harder, he’ll explode.
billy sighs and stares at the ceiling. rips off a smaller piece from his paper, and scribbles a quick note.
bathroom, now is all it says.
he rolls it up into a ball and aims it right at steve’s head. waits for mr. holbrook to turn away, then makes the shot. the paper bounces off steve’s head, then rolls to a stop by his foot.
steve looks up, meets billy’s eyes. billy has the momentary urge to laugh, as steve looks beyond frazzled. his hair is sticking up in all directions and his face is red with exertion. almost like he looks after billy’s had his wicked way with him.
billy points to the note on the ground, and steve pauses, waiting for holbrook to look back down at the papers he’s grading before snatching it up and reading it. his hand is up in an instant, asking to go to the bathroom before excusing himself.
a minute or two ticks by before billy gets up, waltzing out of the room without saying a word. he does well in holbrook’s class, and everyone knows what kind of temper billy harbors. no one says anything to him as he exits the room.
steve is pacing the bathroom when billy enters. he’s wringing his hands, gnawing on his lip aggressively.
“you’re thinking way too hard, harrington.”
the look that’s cast in his direction is nothing short of acidic. “thinking too hard? clearly i’m not thinking hard enough, because i have no idea what the fuck i’m doing. we worked on that shit for hours yesterday. i thought i understood it, but clearly i don’t. and i need this class to graduate, and if i don’t i’m stuck here for another year. so don’t tell me i’m thinking too hard, when you have no idea -”
billy cuts him off mid-rant, closing the distance between them. he pushes steve into one of the stalls, latches the door and crowds him up against it. his lips are on steve’s before he can protest.
steve melts into him instantly, just like he always does. billy can’t help but grin triumphantly against his lips, just like he always does. it always feels like an incredible feat, getting steve to go bonelessly pliant like this with his lips alone.
he cups steve’s face in his hands. kisses him slowly, with purpose. kisses him until the frown lines disappear from his face and the crease in his brow smoothes. kisses him until steve’s hands come up to tangle in his curls. until steve’s lips are puffy and kiss-bruised when billy pulls away.
“steve, listen to me,” billy orders searching steve’s eyes. “you’re going to pass. you’re going to graduate. alright? quit worrying so much. one quiz isn’t the end all be all. if i have to take holbrook out back and make him pass you, i will. okay?”
steve sighs, his fingers bunching in billy’s hair before they move to grasp at his shoulders. he rests his forehead against billy’s, his eyelids fluttering shut and his breathing slow. even.
“okay.” is all billy gets. but it’s enough.
“here,” billy mutters. slipping a separate paper into steve’s pocket. “use it wisely.”
steve knows it’s an aid for the quiz, he knows billy always does it for him, just in case. he smiles, pressing his lips to billy’s once, twice, three times, the third time a soft peck at the corner of his mouth.
“thank you,” steve murmurs, breathing in deep.
“yeah, yeah,” billy chuckles, rolling his eyes. “get back in there and kick that quiz’s ass.”
steve laughs softly, pressing one last kiss to billy’s cheek before exiting the stall, making his way out of the bathroom and back to class.
billy watches him go with a soft smile, walking backwards until his head thumps softly on the wall behind him. lets his heart sing for a moment, just a small one, before making his way back to class as well.
if steve gets a 100 on his quiz, no one needs to know how. when he gets his paper back, he turns to billy, showing it to him. his grin could cure cancer, probably.
thank you, steve mouths, his eyes sparkling.
billy doesn’t say anything back; his smile says it all. and steve knows. he always does.
it’s always answer enough.
