Jayce and Viktor end up with a ginger kid. They’re both really surprised when they see her for the first time, slimy and angry, and she has a bright orange patch of hair on her head.

After the delirium of taking care of a newborn starts to fade and they can have civilized conversations again that aren’t derailed by sleep deprivation and don’t revolve around bottles or diapers, they start trying to figure out where her hair came from. When Jayce starts asking his mom, she tells him that no one in her family has ever had red hair, and that she doesn’t know of anyone in his dad’s family that did either. Viktor can’t remember anyone from his childhood with red hair who he was actually related to.

Eventually the conversation fizzles out until several years later when they take a trip down to the entresol to see Viktor’s elderly aunt for the first time since their daughter (Vivian) was born. As soon as she sees her she goes “Oh, another one!” Jayce and Viktor are both confused and share a look, then she continues “my brother was a ginger. I always thought you’d be the next one, Vitya. Your mother had the worst heart burn when she was pregnant with you, I was just sure you were gonna turn out a red head.” Jayce is immediately interested in hearing more about this theory because he nearly burned a hole in his esophagus while pregnant with Viv but had never heard that wives tale.

Viktor silently rejoices that his sweet little girl with her big cheeks, tan skin, and button nose got something from him.

gonna start this off by saying this isn’t a hate post or serious criticism about the jayvik fandom, because i love it dearly but i’ve noticed something and i have so. so. many things to say.

okay so in about 1/2 of the fics i’ve seen recently, it’s been trans viktor x cis jayce. which is completely fine and dandy, but the sheer size of the headcanon is WILD. especially not having being part of trans viktor nation it really stands out to me. i don’t care if you hc that, good for you.

my question is— why is it always viktor? it feels like any time a fandom sees a twink or even just a skinny dude they scream “trans”. i see this in like every fandom im in?? and a lot of the time these are just used as an excuse for the ship to have a kid.

there’s a severe lack of trans jayce content, a lack of top trans viktor content, etc. the trans dude is always the bottom for some reason? i think this is a good opportunity to really analyze the way we treat mlm ships, often infantilizing or making one of the partners trans most of the time. not to mention the sheer sexualizing of trans people in media like this? i’m not gonna be some crazy conspiracy theorist and say it’s homophobia, but it is a bit concerning.

also this rules out more fun possibilities, like divine intervention creating a jayvik child. that’s infinitely more original and unique (and pretty funny) than just making viktor trans and not having it be a part of plot, or even give him proper representation if he’s portrayed as such?? this is a world with infinite possibilities, infinite universes, etc. we can be a bit more creative, right?

i know there’s gonna be people thinking “hey why is this a big deal just don’t read if you don’t like!”. which is valid, honestly. all i’m saying is that a bit of variety would be nice. jayvik are not “trans pregnant househusband viktor” and “provider dominant daddy jayce”. ffs this man?? the man who let mel dominate him? puppy dog eye jayce talis?

please people, i NEED to see more variety or i’m gonna tweak.

anyway this was sort of stupid. i have a massive fever rn so take all this with a grain of salt. i just don’t particularly enjoy representation that makes me lowkey homophobic 😭😭🙏

but please jayvik nation i promise im not a hater i just enjoy picking apart things.

i do enjoy trans viktor content from time to time, but it’s pretty annoying to see it used as a device just so jayce can knock him up. wtf guys. 🙁

I love Jayce being able to explore his gender post canon.

Jayce, trapped for so long as the Man of Progress, trapped in the rigidity of being Piltover’s golden boy, finally getting to be soft. Jayce being held. Jayce being taken care of. Jayce being pursued, courted, chosen for who he is, not what he represents or what he gives access to or what he “by all rights should be” based on looks alone/what he was assigned at birth. Jayce getting to rest. Jayce getting to explore himself, his wants, his desires, what makes him feel good.

Jayce exploring femininity as a matter of identity even alongside his more “masculine” interests. Jayce embracing being difficult to define outside of Piltover’s rigidity. Jayce innovating, as he always has, broadening the world’s and his own understanding of what is possible.

Viktor being so happy for Jayce and for this freedom for him. Viktor loving being witness to this, to Jayce’s journey. Viktor taking careful note of what fulfills Jayce, what empowers him, what makes Jayce feel most like himself, what gives him gender euphoria. Viktor swearing that Jayce will never again have to be someone he’s not. Viktor falling even more in love with Jayce as the parts of Jayce that he saw pushed down and suppressed in Piltover are finally allowed to blossom.
