Not even Transformco can rescue Lansing Sears store
On Tuesday the mail brought me a Sears credit card (PLATINUM, no less) that won’t expire until 2023. I activated it because I still buy tools at Sears and, occasionally, an appliance.
At least, I did.
On Friday I learned that the Sears store in Lansing - the only one within a reasonable distance of my home - will expire in February. Ever since the Sears/Kmart bankruptcy filing last year, I’ve been wondering how long the store would hang on.
The Lansing store - in business since 1928 - is one of 96 more Sears and Kmart stores that will close in early 2020.
Transformco now owns the crumbling Sears/Kmart chain. Not even that superhero-sounding company could rescue the stores.
Word is that a going-out-of-business sale will start on Dec. 2.
