so, the EHRC guidance came in today.
just as a reminder: it's the transphobic shift under the tories, the hostile environment heightened by reform and restore, but most of all the cruelty and cowardice of the labour government that got us here. that includes Burnham too, by the way. he had the chance to stop this, or even say anything in opposition to it, yet he chose to do nothing and tone down his opposition to transphobia.
another name to mention: Liz Truss, the woman who sabotaged the EHRC to follow her right-wing, hateful tendencies. the woman whose changes, despite being implemented by the worst ever PM we've had, stayed in the EHRC for long enough to allow the institution to lose its purpose entirely.
also in part to blame: the UK media. channels like GB News, TalkTV and even BBC News, as well as newspapers like the Telegraph, Daily Mail, Times, The Sun, The Express, next to all of them (hell, even the Daily Mirror celebrated the ruling the day after it happened) have been pushing this skewed, hateful view of the trans community for years, growing transphobic movements until they had the power to do that.
but then there's the instigators: the "gender-critical" groups and individuals. Sex Matters. For Women Scotland. J.K Rowling. many others that i either forgot to name or don't care to remember that pushed for this draconian, cruel, flawed and and, let's face it, misogynistic guidance.
just remember: next time you tick a ballot paper for labour, the tories, reform or restore, the next time you see a piece of Harry Potter merch or tune in to watch a new piece of HP media, this is what you're condoning. societal exclusion. alienation. dehumanisation. v-coding. bigotry. misogyny. allowing bigots who "can always tell" to decide what a "real woman" looks like.
one wizard story is not worth the safety of an entire community.
no party that condones or performs this can be the "best option".
there are no excuses for condoning this anymore.
If you're trans and live in the UK, you need to start the process of getting your NHS details updated yesterday.
The Sullivan report came out on the 19th March and it is at least as much of a disaster for us as the Cass Review and - like the Cass Review - it is already being used to justify an overreach it does not explicitly recommend.
Within 24 hours of its release, the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting (a plague be upon his house), has banned under 18s from changing the sex marker on their NHS records and said that an adult ban is forthcoming (archive link of a Telegraph article).
Changing your NHS record is easy(ish) and free but it isn't fast. It does not require a GRC, formal diagnosis, or surgery. If you want to do it at all, do it now.
Changing your name, title, or gender on your NHS records
Just a reminder as of the 16th of July this petition to have parliament consider a law that would enshrine the right for trans adults to physically transition is desperately close to its goal and needs 20,000 more signatures by the 28th. If you are a UK citizen sign it! And if not, share it anyway!
If you are a trans person in the UK either under the care of a gender clinic, or even on the wait list for one, please do send them an email or letter opting out of your patient records and data being used for 'research', like the clearly transphobic review that's coming for adult services next.
This is especially important if you are under 30 years old.
There's a great template letter you can use here, it took me less than five minutes to copy stuff and send off an email.
hey so im not gonna make a whole new post chain about it but i do feel the need to make Something new and distinct from the other post because the situation has changed in the last couple of months.
i have to take medical leave from university, so i won't be getting any student finance until late september 2027. my only income AT ALL for next 14 months is the £260 per week i get from my benefits - which equates to less than half of the national minimum wage limit. i'm on a £55 per month payment plan with the gender clinic, and i need to spend about £60 every 6 months to get to london for my check up appointments (next one is in december fwiw)
its going to be very difficult for me to do the payment plan, get to london twice, as well as buying essentials. any "help" i get from folks reading these posts, goes exclusively to paying for my gender healthcare.
if you feel like helping out, please read my other post for more information: https://www.tumblr.com/octalarium/819135319321575424/hrt-drive-summer-edition
instead of supporting jkr you should support me!
a disabled transman from the uk.
i've been stuck on the waiting list for gender affirming care for 6 years and still have not been given a date for a first appointment. (A FIRST. APPOINTMENT. NOT HRT. NOT SURGERY. JUST A FIRST. APPOINTMENT)
i have several chronic health conditions that make it impossible for me to work more than 25 hours a week (and that's at an absolute maximum), and i am currently only working 9 hours a week (and my job can't give me more hours bc they dont have any more). 9 hours a week is not enough to live off by any stretch of the imagination, my PIP and WCA forms are taking an extremely long time to look through and i may not even be approved for those benefits at the end of it all.
so please support me if you can. please support ALL uk and ireland based trans people.
i say ireland too because their trans healthcare is substantially reliant on the uk's. this is awful in itself, but considering just how completely terrible the uk's healthcare for trans people is, it's much worse.
i take art commissions from everyone and also just straight up donations from cis people.
instead of just ragging on jkr and the new series, please consider supporting and uplifting uk based trans people, especially trans POC and disabled trans people.
