also yes, thank you to judah for pointing out about the voicemail and sam thinking it's true to this very day, and then i think about if that was one of the things he confessed when he was doing the trials and he needed to purify himself. if he ever apologized in that church for being the monster, the demon, the abomination everyone always thought he'd become

oh and don't forget about the fact that sam probably still hates himself for wanting to go to stanford and for ever leaving john and dean, for walking out. he hates himself for falling in love with jess or pretty much anyone because he's only ever hurt them and he doesn't know if he can allow himself to love anyone anymore.
