Today [2.5.2024] on what would have been Trayvon Martin’s 29th birthday, our museum shines light on his life and legacy. His mother Sybrina Fulton remembers him as an adventurous kid who loved planes and aspired towards a career in aviation.

"The airport also reminds me of Trayvon. I always think about if he was going to fix the plane, [or] fly the planes because he wasn't really sure." Fulton reflected on the 10th anniversary of his death in 2022.

She remembers Trayvon as a teenager who played football, enjoyed music, and loved his family deeply.

Trayvon Martin’s story reignited a nation’s fight for #socialjustice, a fight that continues today, and well into our future.

The story of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman are evidence that simply being Black is still considered "justifiable cause" for murder in America, and that the justice system is still unreliable when it comes to delivering justice for Black men and women. Dear Black People Of America, I know you are angry right now. I know everyone is hyped to get justice however they see fit. I know the recent verdict was something we may have expected but still hoped it would not be. However, I also know Trayvon's case is one out of many. This is not a racial thing. This is a people thing. The judicial system does fail us as a whole, especially when it comes to minorities but dont be the reason more chaos comes about. IF you want to see change, start within your communities, start within your own homes. Yes, we all hear about black on black violence daily. We also hear about black men disrespecting black women and vice versa, we hear about women calling themselves b*tches and men referring to each other as n*ggas, yet we are enraged whenever it is reflected back to us? America was built on the backs of slaves. Once upon a time we werent even seen as human beings. Maybe that hasnt changed? Maybe we are expected to act unruly and cause havoc. It's so easy to point fingers and blame the system, blame society, blame any and everyone, but that blame changes nothing. We need to wake up and realize we need to be the change we seek. IF you dont like the outcome of something, or the way things are ran, change it. You dont have to riot, you dont have to sit at home and complain, waiting for a hero. BE a hero. We are intelligent people, look at what our ancestors accomplished. This situation is very sad, yet this should bring us together not further divide us. You ever thought that maybe this was to get us to acting out to further prove their belief of our people being "uncivilized"? Are we unable to maintain control and bring about change effectively? When will we stop letting history repeat? If we want respect from others , we must first learn to respect ourselves. So blame the "white man" as much as you would like, but that still doesnt change the black woman or man you see in the mirror daily.
