On this Good Friday, we share Bishop Barron’s “Tre Ore” reflections, which Cardinal Dolan invited him to deliver in 2012 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral (New York, NY). The “Tre Ore,” or Three Hours’ Agony, is a liturgical service held on Good Friday from noon until three o’clock to commemorate the Passion of Christ, and includes a series of homilies on the seven last words spoken by Christ. Bishop’s seven reflections last around 90 minutes, so we encourage you to listen to them sometime today.
Ti amo. Tre secondi per dirlo. Tre ore per spiegarlo. E una vita intera per provarlo
-Sanguedagliocchieilcuorechefa
In the Monastic tradition, two periods of silence are observed. The Minor Silence, in which talking is restricted but not forbidden, recalls the afternoon hours of Agony of Christ of the Cross. The Grand Silence, which is observed from Compline until Prime the following day, recalls the three days Christ was in the tomb.
For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and a mist the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
- Isaias 60:2
TRE.
