Hey you! Bro somehow I forgot that you were Filipino but I saw your page again and got super excited bc iv been working on making some Filipino characters! :D
My main character tear koi is half Filipino her dad died (he was Filipino) but she hangs out with her uncle a lot and I want her to be able to connect with her heritage (bc Filipino culture is very pretty)
Any tips you would wanna give?? She’s based of a old friend of mine who’s Filipino but I don’t have contact with her anymore so I can’t ask these questions
These are a feeewww of the drawings I have of them (or at least the colored ones)
One thing was that her dad and uncle ran a restaurant but I’m not sure which food I should put in the restaurant :(
Anything yummy you would want me to put in the restaurant?
OOOOHHH THAT'S SO COOL! I'm fullblooded and have lived on the philippines my whole life, so I can't really give any immigrant-ish suggestions (I assume she's an immigrant) but here are some general thoughts:
She should address elders with "po" and "opo", it's a sign of respect. "Opo" is basically "yes sir/yes maam", "po" is a little more complicated, if u want u can dm me to explain it more, bc I dont want this post to be super long.
She should also be doing "mano" to her elders, it's a respectful gesture where we touch our elders hand to our forehead. Ig if I was living in a diff country I'd only do it to other filipinos, and not with other ppl so they dont get confused.
You could have her listen to Original Pilipino Music (OPM), some band suggestions are Apo Hiking Society, Eraserheads, Ben and Ben, you can DM me for more!
Sinigang, Lechon, Kakanin, halohalo, lumpia, bulalo, bicol express, and pancit are all foods that are commonly served in filipino restaurants! Highly reccomend
I love that ur making a half fil oc, thats rlly cool :))) Would love to answer more questions abt it, just holler!
Also take "should" with a grain of salt, idk her characterisation, if she's meant to be rebellious and disrespectful feel free to ignore XD
